Gesture or voice recognition maybe? Bind movements to abilities like raising your left arm in front of you to fire off shield block? Or say "Fugeo!" to cast fireball?

With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine. However, this is not necessarily a good idea.

Yea.. voice commands really wouldn't work especially if you don't live alone. It's possible to use them in a lot of current games too but I don't see the appeal unless you're comfortable with people hearing you yell awkward stuff or live in the middle of woods.

Anyway, I really love this. I can totally see myself spending long hours with it playing something like Skyrim and watching 3d movies. Hows the resolution btw? It's hard to tell from previews and Youtube videos.

This should be relevant to your interests.

They're porting the Oculus dungeon into the game RIFT.

Jokes aside, I hope they make the vision "perfect". Anything less would be unbearable, especially if they get close, but leave a few glaring mistakes. The same problem happens whenever try to go for more movement and more realistic actions and gaming, like the Kinect (outside a few well-designed titles).

The Oculus Rift is a pretty incredible device. It's deceptively simple, but the level of immersion it offers is... staggering. Like, 'completely forget that I'm not physically inside of a video game' staggering. Thank god it doesn't come with tactile feedback!

But seriously, doing something as simple as say, walking into an inn at Skyrim and looking up at the vaulted ceiling, then moving near the fire, I swear my body actually thought it was getting warm and cozy. The worst part of the Rift? Taking it off. So disorienting, because my mind was beginning to think it was inside of the game.

Some games don't really work well with it; TF2 for example is a bad one, because in TF2 you're moving at super speed basically, so it's very jarring (at least for me) to move like that with the Rift on. Skyrim on the other hand has you moving at a more 'normal' speed for the most part, and it was easier for my brain to get used to it.

They also, by the way, just upped the resolution to 1080p. It may get better still for the final release.

And do you actually have one or it's just wishful thinking?

    Oclus
    Occulus
It's really not that hard to spell "Oculus" :P I can kind of understand "Occulus," since pretty much every WoW player was already getting that one wrong, but "Oclus?" That doesn't even sound like the same word!

On-topic: It's hard to have a discussion about the Oculus Rift because, in this case, seeing really is believing. Screenshots and videos cannot give you the same effect as wearing the device.

Buddy of mine out here in Irvine has one. I've gotten to mess with it twice now. I wish I had one though, that is definitely wishful thinking!

Yea, I looked it up thanks to this thread and now I really want one too! They're only $300 so the price won't be a problem but I'm not really sold on the 720p resolution. Especially since Im used to playing everything on maximum settings.

As I said, it's actually up to 1080p now. Might be even better in the final release. And though I can't really speak for everybody, though the resolution was a bit disconcerting for the first couple minutes, eventually my eyes just kind of acclimated to it and I barely noticed it, unless I 'put my nose' up against a texture or something.

Looks horrible. I'd prefer one screen and not two of everything. gives me a head ache just looking at the video.

You eyes don't see two screens. Do you happen to know how your eyeballs actually work? :P

i love that comment. it's so - i think i lack the right word for it - immaculate.

edit @comment above (even if i think you already know that):
oh, your eyes DO "see" two different images. always. your brain just makes one out of it.

Perfect, clean, and devoid of mistakes? I'll assume you're joking, because the comment is amusing in that 'seeing two of everything' is exactly how our eyeballs work already!

    haha, oh wow.

I wonder how long it will take before VN's / dating sims allows proper use of the oculus.... now THAT would be neat.

It saddens me that kids don't know what a view master is anymore.

    What?! That's devil talk!

But sadly he's part right. You sort of need to present the 2 images in the "right format" or it will give you a headache. For example some 3d glasses are really badly done and often it's hard to see any 3d with them at all with the exception or an odd snowflake or rain drop flying at you.. and that flickering..

Yeah, there's a real danger of not doing it correctly for sure. From what I've seen so far though, the Oculus does feel 'right' to my eyes though... but to be fair, I've almost never gotten headaches from any 3D glasses before, let alone things like motion sickness. I admittedly have a rather high tolerance for such things, so it's hard for me to be really objective about it.
