Books - find something appropriate but clever for that age, write a personal message inside the cover, done.

For people saying cash the parents would be pretty unlikely to let a 6 or even 9 year old just keep and use cash if it were given (assuming they were basically competent parents). The kids would probably just buy a bunch of candy, make themselves sick, and not really associate it with the giver at that age if allowed to just take it to a store on their own.

Get them both one of those, then they can go play at digging in the garden.

Books, never too early to get someone hooked on reading.

I always preferred getting money over a real present. Although sometimes it was surprisingly fun to get what my parents/friends got me. Some presents sort of encouraged me to get more of them.

On the other hand, creative toys were always a plus for me like legos or something other.

Or just money if you know the kids won't be disappointed by it and their parents won't be too angry at you ;P

Oh, and tbh I find it more insulting if somebody would've given me "harry potter cards" than if they were to give me 50 cents xD

Legos...everyone loves legos, hell I'll take legos for my birthday.

...I'd want that at aged 6 ._. I was all over the 'collect random bullshit cards/pogs/stupid plastic pieces of collectable'.

She'd probably like the Harry Potter ones if I had to guess.

If she is however a typical 'ideal girly girl' who runs around in a ballerina tutu all day, feel free to run with the bear idea.
I have eaten all the popcorn, I left none for anyone else.

Hell yes, buy them some Lego. At least it's good for creativity.
