Want to build a new computer and have no idea where to start..

Hey guys looking to build a new computer. From looking at what I can buy online pre-built from a company the bang for the buck is not where I would like...

So my price range is about 1500-2000.

My requirements are primarily gaming with the usual video watching and internet browsing while doing some school work (who we kidding right?)

Upgrade or New Computer: New computer

Upgrade on what (you hope): Nothing

Willing to Self Build or a Pre-Built: Self built

What all you plan to use it for: Gamming (BF3, MW3, D3, GW2, WoW, Rift etc)

What Operating system you want to use & Bit: 64 bit window 7

What Resolution you hope to be in: at least 1900 by 1080

What Settings do you Want & how much FPS: High - max with 60+ fps

What Country are you from: US

    What can you re-use: Nothing

Network will be wired or wireless: Wired

Any Additional Info Here: I just copied and pasted the above because thats generally the same thing I'm looking at.

I'm also in the market for a new mouse/keyboard combo also that comes along with that. Switching over from a laptop (i know i know, sad life) So it's going to be from the ground up.

I'd like a case that is a little tough and can handle some abuse because a dog does live with me. I have a few ideas that my friend put together:

http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desk...eforce-gtx-670 A video card i've heard great things about
    Intel Core i5-3570K Quad-Core Processor 3.4 GHz 4 Core LGA 1155 - BX80637I53570K-- Friend recommended this
ASUS P8Z77-V LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard--along with this
Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced Full Tower Case with SuperSpeed USB 3.0 (RC-932-KKN5-GP)
Seasonic SS-660XP2 ATX 12V/EPS 12V, 660W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM Full Modular certified Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready
    Asus VS248H-P 24-Inch Full-HD LED Monitor
    Corsair Vengeance 8GB (1x8GB) DDR3 1600 MHz (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory (CMZ8GX3M1A1600C10)
Western Digital WD1002FAEX Caviar Black 1 TB SATA III 7200 RPM 64 MB Cache Internal Desktop 3.5" Hard Drive
Asus 24xDVD-RW Serial ATA Internal OEM Drive DRW-24B1ST (Black)

I do want to run this rig with a SSD also!!

So any helps at all would be greatly appreciated. Open to any and all ideas, all I ask is that you post why this over that.

    Thanks guys!

$1500 and $2000 are a bit different so...

Here's a $1500 build that will get shit done:
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

    CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($219.99 @ Newegg)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($29.99 @ Newegg)
    Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H ATX LGA1155 Motherboard ($109.99 @ Amazon)
    Memory: Patriot Signature 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($59.99 @ Newegg)
    Storage: Samsung 840 Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($89.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($62.99 @ Amazon)
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 760 2GB Video Card ($265.91 @ Newegg)
Case: Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced ATX Full Tower Case ($119.99 @ Newegg)
    Power Supply: XFX 550W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply ($59.99 @ Newegg)
    Optical Drive: LG GH24NS95 DVD/CD Writer ($14.94 @ Newegg)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit) ($90.91 @ Amazon)
    Monitor: Asus VS239H-P 23.0" Monitor ($159.99 @ Newegg)
Keyboard: Corsair Vengeance K70 Wired Gaming Keyboard ($129.99 @ Amazon)
Mouse: Razer Naga 2012 Wired Laser Mouse ($49.99 @ Amazon)
    Total: $1449.65
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

The GTX 670 you listed is a generation old. The GTX 760 has almost the same performance as the 670 at a lower price.

You dont need a platinum PSU

2 sticks of RAM is preferable over one

Now with $2000 I would personally go for this:
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

    CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($339.99 @ Newegg)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($89.99 @ Newegg)
    Motherboard: Asus Z87-A ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($134.99 @ Newegg)
    Memory: Patriot Signature 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($59.99 @ Newegg)
    Storage: Samsung 840 Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($184.60 @ Amazon)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($62.99 @ Amazon)
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 770 4GB Video Card ($485.91 @ Newegg)
Case: Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced ATX Full Tower Case ($119.99 @ Newegg)
    Power Supply: XFX 550W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply ($59.99 @ Newegg)
    Optical Drive: LG GH24NS95 DVD/CD Writer ($14.94 @ Newegg)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit) ($90.91 @ Amazon)
    Monitor: Asus VS239H-P 23.0" Monitor ($159.99 @ Newegg)
Keyboard: Corsair Vengeance K70 Wired Gaming Keyboard ($129.99 @ Amazon)
Mouse: Razer Naga 2012 Wired Laser Mouse ($49.99 @ Amazon)
    Total: $1944.26
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

Im on board with almost all of the build list from the 2k+. I'm a firm believer in doing things once and not having to worry for a while.

    Now a few questions:

Monitor? Is that really the best bang for my buck? Would a 27" be a better bet for around the same price?

Keyboard.. Seems a little lack luster..

Mouse: I a actually using that exact mouse right now, I was just wondering if there was anything else better on the market :P

Major differences (pro's and con's) Of going with one CPU over the other? Is there a better middle ground in there? Somewhere that splits the difference? Or is that something you don't want to skimp on?

Thanks for the quick reply... Hopefully this turns out well and my last few jobs pay up then I can get ordering!!

I see you play BF3 and MW3, 120+ Hz monitor over a 60 Hz will make an incredible difference.

One of the best mice for competetive FPS shooters is the Razer Deathadder 2013, highly recommend it!

As for a keyboard, mechanical is gonna cost you extra.. I don't like them and they sound horrible IMO, so it's up to you. I left the build without any mice/keyboard since it's more preference.

I like the Naga overall because of its size and I cant play MMOs without it. Also I use it in FPS for weapon switching/other things.

I find 27" too big and I find 23.5" perfect. Also, its an IPS monitor. I also find 60FPS fine for BF3 and Call of Duty atm. I personally prefer color/image quality over fluidity. What do you prefer?

The keyboard is considered one of the best mechanical keyboards at the moment. I cannot use non-mechanical keyboards for gaming after trying my Razer Blackwidow Ultimate (look into this).

As for the CPU, here's a quick lesson on i7 vs i5. i7 has something called 'hyperthreading'. Basically, it doubles the amount of cores you have using virtual cores. So with an i7 its as if you have 8 cores instead of the 4 cores you get with an i5. Ok so you might ask why more cores makes a difference. In terms of gaming TODAY, it makes little/no difference. You'll notice a difference during tasks like video rendering and streaming and more multi-tasking oriented things.

That being said, a lot of upcoming games (Battlefield 4 for example) and even some current games (e.g. Crysis 3) actually take advantage of more cores so hyperthreading helps in those games quite a bit. Its in games that dont use more than 4 cores where you wont notice much of a difference.

Seeing how these games are coming out in approx 3 months, it would only be around 4-5 months since Haswell was released. I doubt i7-Haswells will be outdated or not effective seeing how Sandy Bridge is still going strong

and as for 'is it worth it' thats completely up to you. For me it is.

    Hey guys!

So seriously looking at purchasing this new computer soon!!!

But I had a few questions! Now what are the major differences between the two builds? Im favoring more towards the 1700-2k versions.

Now I would like to cut costs as much as possible but at the same time I don't feel bad at all buying what is really worth the money. I'm basically asking if there is anything that might be looking into again?

Better case? Do I really need an i7 vs the i5? The graphic card prices are quite different? Is running one better then two?

Also future looking to possibly running two monitors soon.

Honestly! I'm just really looking into more options and/or reasons why one over the other. I know I'm asking a lot from complete strangers but I'm very uneducated in terms of building and almost don't want to spend the time too, but I know in the end it will be worth it in comparison to buying a pre-built machine.

Thank you in advance for any and all answers!
