For you guys who think soccer is boring

MrBtongue just put this up and I thought I'd leave it here:

maybe some of you will give it (another) chance, with world cup just starting it would be a perfect time ;p

edit: it's an american guy explaining why soccer is actually kinda cool (mostly aimed at other americans since it makes some comparisons to american football etc. but all soccer-skeptics may find it interesting)

I don't think soccer is boring, I just enjoy it more than other things. If I am bored and I know there is a game on I might watch, but I don't like it enough to know when there are games...

Objectively I think soccer is a very boring sport and the only reason people like it so much is because of tradition.

My own opinion is that soccer is way fucking boring. I'll give your video a view later.

I used to think it was boring then I actually watched it and that was back in 1994, its 2014 and I still watch the World Cup, the Champions League stuff and any game I find on TV that isn't MLS, I do find the MLS games boring but that is probably due to there only being like 1000 spectators in the stands, amazingly enough even FOX broadcasts euro matches from time to time but there are plenty of TV stations dedicated to football in the US, if I spoke Spanish, the Spanish channels show tons of games here.

The 1 thing I hate about soccer is the flopping (see the Brazil v Croatia game yesterday) but at the same time I watch the NBA so I'm used to it...still hate it but whatever

A friend of mine used to hate hockey but he never actually watched an entire game then he watched a game...now he is a fan, watches any game that is on TV

Can't watch the video until Monderday, but I just popped in to say that soccer / 'football'
just feels like a whole lot of build up for no payoff. (Kinda the same way I view basketball.)

The only entertaining thing about soccer is the flop compilations. What a garbage sport.

Some people just don't get it, stop caring about it. It's not like Football needs more attention, it's THE sport in the world. There isn't even anything close.

I'd rather watch Starcraft 2 matches than football.. :/ But I'm not a sports fan at all tbh.

I don't really go out of my way to watch soccer but I enjoy the actual sport when I watch it. The low scoring nature of the sport makes it extremely thrilling when something actually happens. I also enjoy the skill a lot of the athletes display.

What turns me off though is how theatrical it is... Hit lightly on the shoulder during a tackle? Better pretend he dislocated my shoulder with a sledge hammer so I can get a penalty shot. The few times I'v watched it I'v just flat out turned it off at that point. Its ridiculous in my opinion.

Soccer is not an exciting sport to watch, and this is from someone who loves playing soccer.

It takes too long for anything to get going. The only reason you watch it is to just cheer on your team/country.

I'd like to point out to the less civilized among us, that by football, you mean actual football, the game played all over the planet. The game being referred to as "soccer" in the thread title.

Just so nobody confuses it with the thing where an event takes 2-3 hours during which the actual "game" is played 15 minutes, where juiced-up men wear body armor and throw around brown, leathery thing that doesn't resemble a ball in any way or form, while trying to get a few yards this way and then a few yards that way.

That's exciting in its own way for me though. When something finally does happen its like "FUCK YEAH LETS DO THIS". But yeah like I said, I don't really watch it.

When I was a kid I didn't understand how people could watch a match for 90 min. But after some years when I got more into the sport, know how things work, the meaning of the sport and the beautiful teamplay I don't understand how people cannot watch this. It's much more fun when you understand it ofc, like everything else.

People can argue all they want, they can call it soccer or football, you may think it's boring or whatever, but objectively, statistically it is the most popular sport in the World and you can't do anything about it.

Accept it, or don't, nobody really cares about you.

I live in Europe and I don't find football interesting at all.

I kinda understand why is it so popular in some south-american, african an other similar countries - every poor kid can grab some rugged old ball and kick it around and hope they will become the next >>insert-a-famous-football-player-because-I-don't-know-any<<.

But as for the rest of the world, I don't really get the hype... To me, it looks like the typicall social-networking thing we can see these days - it's just something everyone and their grandmothers talk about so I better join the herd, right? And that's not something I'm making up right now - even my friends, especially those female ones, who have never ever been interested in football now became the most hardcore fans ever and flood facebook with their pictures and stupid statuses about football.
