Iron Qon Normal Phase 1 stacking problem

So last week when we got our first kill on him and we had 4 melee and 6 ranged. We did 4 stack on melee, then 2 stacks and 1 stack then back to melee. tonight when we gave it a try we only had 5 ranged. This means 5 melee and i want to know if anyone can recommend how to do the stacking with this setup. idealy we will get 6 ranged next time, but in the case that we get 5 melee, what is the best way to do the stacking+

In heroic you can go up to 5-6-7 stacks with 5 melee if you rotate your cooldowns correctly (if you have the right setup as well). As you are on normal then you should be able to do the same. Its easier for melee to take it due to healing and the fact that the ranged (also healers) have to move more often for spears and the like.

Give us some more info about your setup if you can.

EDIT: Sorry completely missed the normal part.

In normal we did 3 groups. 2 with 3 and one with 4. We split after 3-4 stacks. This helped spread the hurt. We are also 5 ranged.

have the 5 melee stack together and heal through all the stacks. two of them are tanks I assume and tanks can take 12 or 14 stacks no problem. The rest are easily healed through and healers/rdps have minimum movement. If your dps is low, you can have 2 tanks + 1 melee stack, the rest of the melee on the boss' butt. The stack group takes 4 stacks, then have one of the non-stack mdps switch with the stack mdps, take 4 more stacks, rinse/repeat.

if you have a rogue, you can use 2 tanks + rogue and soak all the stacks. Rogue can feint every scorch and then cloak off the debuff at 4 stacks. Easily healable. We do this on heroic iron qon so you can definitely do it on normal since the damage will be less.

For tonight it was: Solo pala tank. Resto, Holy, Disc for healers. DPS was 2x retri, Frost dk, Hunter and feral (normally tank).

Healers are so and so on moving so trying to find a way that makes it as easy as possible for them.

Would it work to have all dps and the one tank to just stack up at all times and take everything and just have the healers stay out? Or have all stack including healers?

Ranged dpssers can be a target for spears, even if they are in melee range (else everyone would just stand in melee range and zerg it).

So no, you cannot have your ranged dps hug.

There are a few things you can try depending on what your group is capable of doing. Rotate stacking melee and ranged but the melee NEED to split into 3 groups at max melee range from each other to avoid accidental stacks. The ranged would need to move from the spears as one group.

You say you have a "Resto" but that doesn't tell us if that's a Druid or Shaman. If it's a Druid healing during the move from the spear should not be an issue. If it's a shaman you could try having the melee stacked for all the stacks and later move up to the tank for an extra split and then start chaining each paladin's Devo, the Shaman's CD's, and the Disc' barrier while the Holy spams group AoE healing on them. That could also work with a Druid instead of a Shaman but it would be one less group damage reduction CD.
