    Ability Bloat: Priest Edition

So, all the other classes are having a merry time speculating about what's on the chopping block for them. I can definitely feel the bloat, given that there's two spells that I actually use and can't even spare a click-slot for: Mind Vision and Renew. (I use them by opening chat and typing /cast ... >.>)

So, what can go? I think a big part of the problem isn't class abilities so much as it's a lot of items and non-ability macros eating half my action bar slots. Things like: on-use trinkets, tailoring nets, Rod of Ambershaping, Symbiosis, G91 Landsharks, three kinds of potion (Int, mana, and Kafa Press), Healthstones, drinks (conjured and otherwise), mounts, and Ra'sha's Sacrificial Dagger. I'm sure that some people don't bother with so many different items, but aside from the Landsharks, I can't really live without them.

One thing I do think should be done is more macro modifiers. You know help/harm macros? It'd be great if I could do something like:
    Code:
/cast [type:undead] Shackle Undead; [noimmune:root] Embersilk Net; Rod of Ambershaping
Currently I have all those abilities linked with things like [nomod], [mod:ctrl] and [mod:shift]. If we could get the modifiers for type and immune, that'd allow me to fit more abilities into the same keybind by freeing up the shift+X and ctrl+X spots.

Another thing that would free a few slots on my bars: make PW:Fort passive and/or automatic, and make Inner Fire/Inner Will passive, and let the spell switch which one you have. That'd save two more buttons and change almost nothing.

I don't have any problems with my keybinds, and I have ~20 target/focuscast/setfocus/clearfocus macros keybound, in addition to all my spells, pots etc. Try playing a Moonkin lol.

I don't have a problem with keybinds on priest and I am left handed lol, I use the numpad on right side of keyboard with shift and alt modifiers, so I have 51 keybinds

Can't say I have this problem either. I got most bound to my mouse with shift, ctrl and alt modifiers. I also keep different setups for PvE and PvP where in PvE I have a lot unbound becuase, I never use them. Should I absolutely have to cast psychic scream in PvE which I cannot recall the last time, I can just click it.

Play Disc PvP most of the time, I think the amount of spells we have right now is pretty good. Maybe make Renew Holy only and make Shadowfiend/Mindbender and Hymn of Hope talents in the same row.

I dont care how many spells there are.

if they go and make it like GW2 with only 8 ability i will just quit.

priests really don't have that much ability bloat. i'd say that they're pretty solid in terms of having a good mix of abilities with their own uses without much redundancy.

    druids and prot wars, otoh...

Priest specs don't really feel bloated to me. Sure each spec has a bunch of useless spells, but I just don't bind them.

Also, I don't understand how modifier macros somehow reduce bloat. Whether it takes 1 actionbar slot or 3, it's still 3 abilities that use 3 keybinds. Get an actionbar addon with hidden bars if you feel like you have too many buttons on your screen. Only reason to have them visible is to see cooldowns and mod-macros can't show the cd of all the spells anyway.

Re...Renew? I don't think there's a spell that I use more than Renew. ;_; Personally, I've never found myself using Mind Vision (very rarely, actually), but I kinda like having it. Other classes have gimicky spells too (eg. rogues' pickpocket, druids' track humanoids, shamans' far sight, warlocks' eye of kilrogg, etc.). And what's the need to have every spell keybound anyway?

This is a bit of the opposite really, but...I miss baseline Mind Control. :'(

    I will flay your mind.

I miss Mind Soothe. Not even joking.
I think the priest kit of abilities is really good, the only ability you can really get away without keybinding is Mind Vision, if they removed something that would be it. I like that spell though so I rather see it stay.

Does anyone even pick it over void tendrils and psyfiend? Making it a talent to choose from with those 2 other options was stupid.

Removing things like mind vision won't effect ability bloat. Rarely used ability's where you don't even need them keybind don't need to be removed :/

Inner Fire needs to go and be completely Passive, Will can be the same way or stance change like paladins old seals or something...

Renew is crap has been for a long time it could go or needs to be integrated into a spell...

Shackle either needs to go or become usable on players...

Lightwell has always been dumb imo, needs to go...

these are a few of my opinions...

ME TOO! I was so upset when they removed that. I'm still bitter about it.

It's incredibly powerful in 2v2, probably to the extent that it is overpowered.
For PvE I sometimes pick it just for fun.

spriest doesn't really have any abilities that go unused, maybe apart from mind vision, but it also has its uses. So... none.

Also, about you not using renew...

    ...

    /facepalm

Would be pretty surprised if Renew went away, as it's important for all specs for PvP and solo/scenarios. Also obviously worth casting as holy PvE.

I think Mind Vision and Shackle Undead are the obvious choices to cut. Binding Heal could also probably stand to be a glyph.

I want nothing to go. On the contrary, I want Mind Soothe back, and access to the abilities as it was before the new talents. I want to be able to use Smite while in a shadow specialisation, just because. I am in no need of the game to restrict the fun that I can have with my character because "that is not performance-efficient." The vast majority of players with priests don't even use macros for anything really. The bloat comes only to those that use tenths of them for whatever reason. I think it's time the game stopped becoming incresingly restricted, and thus boring, all the time just to satisfy a few players, and allowed people to have some fun instead.

Binding Heal is a good spell which sees frequent use and Shackle is an important PvP spell, I doubt either of them are going anywhere.

Don't touch Shackle. It's a perfectly balanced ability, based on which you can tell a priest knows his entire arsenal.
When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears
