Yosemite fire:State of Emergency in San Francisco.

    http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/l...,4855472.story

The Rim fire threatened San Francisco’s power supply, damaging the Hetch Hetchy reservoir's water and power system. The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission has been forced to shut down two of its three hydroelectric power stations near Hetch Hetchy, and Gov. Jerry Brown on Friday extended a state of emergency to include San Francisco because the reservoir is a major source of electricity and water for the city.

Hopefully everyone over there is ok.
Seems pretty bad only 7% contained and is encroaching on some sequoia trees.

Was this human started or lightning strike?

Also, i hope it wasn't made worse due to underbrush growing out of control from "prevent ALL the fires!" misguided thoughts.

    Hope the damage is minimal.

.....its normal.... also most animals are probably gone if they were able to

Just for some explication on this subject... the Redwood trees mentioned are extremely fire resistant. In fact, their seed pods distribute most successfully after they've been seared.

Suppressing wildfires, while obviously good for people, unfortunately leads to a buildup of underbrush and dead material that can disrupt a forest's ecosystem by suppressing new trees. And when there IS a fire, it's much more powerful, as it has years and years of accumulated underbrush to feed it.

As the climate becomes warmer and warmer, however, and snowfall decreases, there's much less lasting moisture. Forests suffer significantly from drought, and trees, strained for water, fall prey to bark beetles... And while they might sound innocuous, they damage and kill millions of trees each year, further feeding forest fires and significantly harming forest ecosystems.

Fires are normal, even necessary for some trees to reproduce. HUGE fires that go out of control tend to result from overgrown underbrush from not being allowed to burn from small to moderate fires.

Seems this is one is of the out of control variety.
