I voted for Johnny Cash - Hurt for 2 reasons, It is very sad and I am too lazy to vote other and find another one ^_^
I voted for Johnny Cash's Hurt from the list
I think Tears in Heaven isn't that sad unless you know the story behind it.
I think additional songs for consideration should be:
Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen
Last Kiss by Wayne Cochran (most of you probably know it from Pearl Jam's cover)
It's such a subjective thing, with everyone having their own memories and associations with particular songs.
Makes it interesting to see what touches other people though.
The one below is a piece of music I was randomly posted on IRC while downloading anime, like 10 years ago back when I was young and insecure about where I was heading etc.
It followed me on the rollercoaster that came after.
Sitting afterwards with my life finally heading exactly where I want it to, this piece of music thus holds a strong emotional meaning to me.
Enjoy
another for consideration, but i think there sadder up

Mad World takes the cake for me. Surprisingly it cheers me up when I'm already down.
I've voted for Johnny Cash - Hurt (i know NIN wrote the original)
But this song is quite sad in my opinion, every time i hear start to get emotional
The Smiths- Asleep
It's like crossing an intersection. There's shit going on all over the place and you don't panic and act like an idiot then do you?
can't say i have much Christian rock in my playlist, but this one is special.
also hit too close to home.
I like my coffe like my mages.
I get chills and tear up EVERY time I hear these two songs(and yes the second one has to be the Pearl Jam version =P)...

one more.. mostly instrumental but damn it gives me chills! Whats funny is while seaching for the vid "Queen Bijou lyrics" came up... wha?
Time for some Old School sad ones.....
"The pen is mightier than the sword.. and considerably easier to write with."
I have one very special one, although it might be a bit weird to some.
During my time together with a woman who I think was and still is, the love of my life, she always sang a particular song. It was from a movie, with lyrics that were true, deep inside.
It's from Bryan Adams, Everything I do, I do it for you. She used to sing it with a voice so clear, so beautiful. She would give me flowers, paint or just walk beside me, whistling it. During our holidays her voice would flow through the mountains, echoing slowly away.
Years later, when she had passed away on the age of 21, I listened to this song. My book, my life, it's all thanks to her. And now, I do everything for her, in order to keep her alive.
there's a live version from the troubadour album, but cant find it on youtube, but its amazing.
The Johnny Cash video was pretty gd sad... I voted for Streets of Philadelphia, but after watching the video, that's powerful shit. Goes to show that music is a visual experience as much as it is an auditory one. But in terms of just the song, still Philadelphia takes it.
After reading through some of these posts... these suggestions are not sad music.... Which is kinda sad, lol. L2music mmochampion...

Got a few more....
One of the greatest songs ever written.... Uriah Heep's Version
Or this is great too:
And this is probably the saddest song I know... The artist is a huge star in Germany.. He wrote the song in honor of his wife who passed away unexpectedly..
It's in German, but has English subtitles
"The pen is mightier than the sword.. and considerably easier to write with."
