I'm going to go with Trassk's mountain dew explanation, for it is both glorious and accurate...ish.

Looking marvelous in velvet.
Guys Kobolds are not related to Troggs.
There are a number of lesser races in Azeroth that act like pets in the real world.
Kobolds - Rats
Virmin - Rabbits
Gnolls - Hyenas
Snobolds - Northrend Rats
Murlocs - Fish/frog men
Wolvar - Wolverines
Oracles - Frog-things
Sporlocs?
Then things like Gilblin and pygmies in Uldum I guess could also count.
They're just to add flavour to the continents really. Instead of fighting giant rabbits we get rabbit men.
maybe they did. maybe they are troggs that were blessed by a rat ancient, or something. maybe they were an especially weak group of troggs that being killed one by one by predators, so the rat ancient decided to bless them with his rat baby-making powers so they'd be born faster than the predators could kill them lol
Warlorcs of Draenorc made me quit. You can't have my stuff.
Rabbits = tween content. That's the explanation.
And monkeys, and tigers, and snakes, and ..cranes? And foxes.
Really, I know it might be agreeing with some of the negative vibes people gave pandaria, but you can't deny half the inspiration of pandaria obvious came from this movie, even if pandaren came years earlier in wow's story, all the other races in mists didn't.
considering all the races of pandaria are based on an animal hybrid, its not hard to make that connection.

Yeah, there's a distinct lack of Australasian mobs in the game. Hippos are also another "common" animal that has no analogue in Azeroth.

That's not really a legitimate argument. Those species are important in Chinese mythos, it would make sense there would be crossover when two properties use the same source.
You're not allowed to discuss conspiracy theories on mmo-champion, which makes me wonder what they're trying to hide.
the mogu are based on the stone lion statues in china.

yep, even the mogu are based on some kind of animal mythos, blizzard just souped them up a bit and made them humanoid from the get go instead of having some fabulous story of evolution.

JAR JAR binks says hello...
...Made it through 9 years of wow...
Like all the lore of cata and especially MoP I find it's best to pretend none of it ever happened and ignore its existence as a whole.
We can only hope that they are not watching SyFy original movies.
You could say that about any race in the game...
Most immersion breaking part of wow IMO is when those fuckers are around, namely valley of four winds and that stormstout shit.
I mean... Wow never was that immersion friendly, but for fucks sake that dungeon is a fucking alarm clock. To be honest, I'd sack whoever is responsible for that.
