Well, I know I wanted it to be like EVE but with the Star Wars flavor (and better combat than EVE)

I kind of doubt I'll get my wish though.

yeah... No. At most, I am expecting Xwing/tiefighter like stuff with... god willing, a pvp map.

I'm expecting it to be a lot simpler, I doubt they'll require target leading for example. It'll probably be about as complex as Galaxy on Fire or at best, Freelancer.

Well, freelancer requires target leading. Same with starconflict. Which is why I am praying it's at least at starconflict level in terms of movement and combat (it won't have anything close to starconflicts ship diversity or customization. That game is just doing great things)

On the first page I acknowledged that it is probable that they won't fix the targeting issues. I mean, as it stands, shots fired at a target will always hit it even if it changes direction. That will not fly in PvP. Further, shots ignore collusion. Ever notice that you can shoot through the top of a starship to hit it's turrets on it's underbelly? If they don't sort that out you are going to be sniped from people behind all sorts of random objects.

You know what... I've been looking at the clip like... 50 times over and over again.

Notice how stiff the ship is in the middle of the screen? That's practically proof enough that it's free flight and not on rails. The camera is following the SHIP.

Further, the rate of flight is VERY high. There's no reason for it to be that high if shots will always hit. Additionally, you can see, particularly with the tiefighter... Its missing. In fact, you can SEE the guy trying to lead on his shots after he misses a bunch!

I... I think this might be worth getting a LITTLE hyped about now...

Another thing is the ship movement itself. Hard to explain, but the turns seem to me that someone is controlling the movement, they aren't as...fluid as the on the rails turns they gave us. If that makes sense. All in all, I am being cautiously optimistic right now. haha

So i just tries Starconflict and if they go that route I just might die of cardiac arrest. WOW I think i just found the game to give Firefall and swtor some serious competition

@Bardarian - I don't see why just because the camera is following the ship means it wouldn't be on rails. Could quite easily have the camera centered on the ship and still have it on rails.

Possibly, but when you compare it to the current system where the camera follows the rail and you move around the rail, it shows that they've changed how the camera works. If it's the same movement system, why change the camera? It's far less pretty and 'cinematic' than the old system (which was the reason they went with rails in the first place... because it's pretty).

Taken with the 'freeflight' assets and the fact you can miss despite aiming close to a target, which is also a fundamental change in gameplay, it's starting to seem like a classic 90s space sim ported to swtor.

I mean, I know I am getting ahead of myself... But I just want to believe that games made in 1987 weren't so technologically advanced that bioware can't replicate their gameplay in 2013.

Am I wrong for hoping that if it is off-rail space combat, it's similar to Rogue Squadron?

There is considerable evidence that it will be off rails.

Can I please have my free space filled with boring escort missions like in Star Wars Galaxies?

If this is some sort of Space PVP Combat then Bioware can have all my money. Would be such an awesome feature!

I really want this to be good, but the whole history of this game has been Bioware overhyping and then delivering something flawed and underwhelming. Remember the Ilum hype, for example?

Now because of the lack of proper space combat in this game has gone on for so long and with hopes raised so high, if this is not darn-near perfectly executed the amount of whining will be enough to destroy a Death Star. So I am trying to keep my personal expectations very low. I have found that keeping my expectations low has made this game more tolerable.

But then again, expectations on graphics are also much higher now, so even with the extra power of modern computers they also have to do a lot more.

There also may be constraints on using the engine they have as opposed to writing your own custom engine from scratch.

My hope is that these are basically big, open, 3D areas where you can freely fly within the area, but they are banded by invisible walls (for practical purposes, since moving too far away from the action is pointless anyway). My worry is that instead this will be off rails but instead be in a tunnel, where you can move back and forth within that tunnel to a certain degree, but your course is still pre-set. Basically, rails where you can move far enough on that rail to make the camera move too, but you can only go so far.

    1. They are using the existing assets for ships.
    2. People have remade swtors, xwing, and neutonian space sims on the hero engine over a matter of weeks with a team of 3-4.
    3. That's the current system, essentially. A 'tube shooter' as they called it in a panel.

From what people have learned it WILL 99% be open space PvP since most of the data is under Space -> PvP in datamined files, were will be 3 types of starships to pick up from , some objectives and pvp style. Take my money BW and pls DO NOT SCREW IT!

The real question is... if there is space PvP will it be behind a paywall?

I am A-OK with it being behind a PayWall. This is the type of thing F2P games need to release...actual side mission content that is worth buying. I *could* see it being something that, like Makeb, costs less for Subscribers rather than F2P players, but I would *like* to see it purchasable with Cartel Coins.

That being said, I am super hopeful this is like the X-Wing or Tie-Fighter days. There is so much potential for this if they can just get the basic foundation correct. So for now I will sit patiently in my seat with my hands nervously fidgeting with my pants while tapping my feet manically.
