    Deathmatch Battleground

Ive been reading all these posts lately on new BG ideas, and why are none of these posts and idea for just a straight deathmatch BG? Is there a reason they haven't done this yet?

    The Battle for Southshore/Tarren Mill

    - 40v40
    - First side to kill 300 of the opposing faction wins.

All jokes aside, I think they shy away from something like this because they want players to have specific objectives to focus their efforts on. I think a deathmatch BG would be an interesting thing to look at and attempt at least once just to see how players react to it. I'd probably enjoy the chaos.

Ive always thought, if players don't want to play it, don't make them, and just take that BG out of the Random BG cycle, and give it the rewards as if your queuing for a random or something, then everyone thats there, wants to be there.

it sounds like a good idea but the main problem is that PvP is mostly pro-ranged classes. any melee would be instantly tunneled and blown up. I find that happening to me [ret pally] alot whenever i go into an AV bg that turns into a turtle. ive learn to just stay near casters and try to kill any of their melee that are stupid enough to charge into 20 of us.

I always thought this would be an awesome solution to Alterac Valley. Bring back old-style AV and make it similar to a battleground, but easier to leave and join. Players could hop in and out of the massive battles which could potentially last for days. Use the scaling technology in flexi finder to scale the bosses and open it up to 50, 75 maybe 100 players.

    OT:
Temple of Kot'mogu is about as close to getting a Deathmatch BG as I'd like. The problem when you have a purely deathmatch style BG is that it feels awful for anybody not used to PvP or fully geared. Premades would leave no chance for the opposition to win and if there was a stalemate because both sides had 4 healers it'd be boring as hell.

Deathmatch BGs sound awesome on paper, but once you took away every objective it'd feel extremely bland.

i really want to avoid being a smart ass but there is one similar to that. its takes place in alterac valley and its first team to kill 500 people. not 300.

I think they tried to do a DM-like BG with the temple of kotmogu, yet people still keep fighting on the sides while ignoring the mid >_>

most people just run around and kill things, is that an issue in temple? it's pretty much how you play the map

Without the orbs, Temple of Kotmogu would essentially turn into "first team to get 160 kills wins". And I can see some people may find that fun, but is it still fun when you end up against a team with 4 healers, with everyone in full PvP gear while your own team lacks healers and PvP gear? I doubt it because the game suddenly turned into: "farm 160 kills at the graveyard to win".

The biggest problem is healers. Whatever team has the most healers will have the greatest chances to win. And while it's sort of the same with other battlegrounds, the key to win in a deathmatch battleground is to get kills and if you don't get them, you can't win unlike in other battlegrounds where you can win by securing objectives while getting very little kills.

Except that's not really the case. You have towers (and generals I believe) that once taken/killed will reduce the kill count and there's also the method of killing the "end boss" to win by zerging it basically.

The one you quoted idea, I'm assuming, is basically you go in and first team to kill 300 wins without any gimmicks like towers reducing it, bosses to fight. Just all out war.

That kind of bg would probably function like arenas below 1500 mmr, god no.

The thing about a TDM bg is that blizzard know people want it, they also know that it will be popular, therefore they need to create it at a time where it will have maximum outreach to their player base in order to "convince" players that bgs are still fun and worthwhile.

I imagine that this type of BG is in the pipeworks, and will likely be released at the beginning of the next expansion when subscription numbers will be at its highest as, imho, that's the biggest chance they have to give it the outreach it needs.

If we're talking a BG death match sorta style then yes. But in Temple I honestly don't find healers to be the issue, due to the buff/debuff you get. I mean, if a person has been in the middle for say 5 minutes, you can pretty much 2 shot him - regardless of how many healers he got.

I used to participate in those epic battles at Southshore/Tarren Mill and if something like that were to happen again, I might just go do World PvP again. The problem is, that people would QQ left and right. "PvE'ers have too big an advange", "Ranged dps have too big an advantage", "Tanks are impossible to kill" etc. Back when we fought at Southshore and Tarren Mill, people didn't have all these things to complain about. It was just a "Whoever brings the biggest guns win" sorta thing.

I also remember the old AV that could literally last for days. My god that was freaking epic. Today's AV is a pile of dog poo and I've banned it from my random cycle.

But imagine that we got a BG where the only objective was to kill each other. If we then apply a buff/debuff similar to the one in Temple - say the more time pass without you dying, the more dmg you do and take. I believe that's about how it works in Temple. That way you'll end up being the ultimate glass canon and you will ofc end up dying. About melee not having a nice time, well that's probably the only thing I actually feel can cause a legit reason to worry. Then again, if you team up with several others, the odds that you could Death Grip, range silence etc are pretty good.

Anyways, I'd love a BG that was only about killing the opposing team. And look at today's BG's, where a lot of players just do that. Completely ignoring the objectives, cause it's more fun to go apeshit in the middle.

    Your signature is truly legendary!

OT: I'd love a TDM BG where healers aren't allowed =3

I could get behind a Death Match bg if class balance was not so out of whack.

Guys, don't you think that the way people play BGs now is exactly like that? About 70% of players in all BGs I have been in just want to kill (me including) and don't care about objectives anyway.

Deathmatch BG will be a great idea! We have so many objective-based ones, 2 vehicle-based ones that no one likes and just 1 kill-based will not hurt anyone.
