Now thats a Mouthfull (of Hawaiian driving licence)

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-24097775

A US woman has won a battle to have her full name put on her driving licence.
Janice "Lokelani" Keihanaikukauakahihuliheekahaunaele's name is so long - containing 36 letters and 19 syllables - that it would not fit on the documentation.

as much as I want to laugh at this story, I find it quite sad that the computer systems are not able to cope with her surname, Especially on the Isle's of Hawaii, where the native population tend to have quite long surnames that have multiple meanings.

Good News is that its being sorted at the end of the year

Exactly how it's spelt, with emphasis on vowels.

That's pretty hilarious, I'm surprised this is the first time something like this has come up.

Geez, my first name is Christopher, and i've had to put up with Christoph since I was 16 lol
At least here in NJ, there's a set number of characters for first name, 1 for initial, and set number for last name. It would be sweet if they gave like a total of say 30 characters, so my entire name could fit!
When I worked at DMV we had only a couple people who's last name couldn't fit.

You know... just like it's spelled >.> give me a few tries to say it right though. My mainlander tongue will mess it up or I'll forget what I'm saying halfway through.

To be fair, driving licenses has to be the same in size and the font as well. It is a rather extreme situation, and she did win, otherwise it would be quite different discussion

"How it is spelled" is pretty much worthless in English.

"Kei" could be pronounced like the word "Key", like the name "Kay", or like "Kii" pronounced with a long "i" sound. I would probably lean toward "kay", but with no greater than 60% confidence. Given that my initial attempt came up with 20 syllables, and the article says it's only 19, either I'm wrong or the article is.

And my full name doesn't even appear on mine in NY, and my name is only 18 characters long.

States can vary here too, so it's not even "countries". Florida redid things so the name gets two lines and has both my middle names on it.

I think it ties into the thread about ellipses.

Or maybe she should be required to have a second card with the other part of her name.
