    SoO Protection Trinkets.

Sorry if this has been discussed but i failed to find anything. My guilds only 5 bosses in right now hopfully 6-8 by the end of the week. Really casual guild only raiding 5 hours a week. But anyway, i was going over the SoO loot and found some unusual trinkets. And now I'm kind of lost on what trinkets i should be Aiming to get, I'm the MOAR HASTE kind of pally.

What would you guys rank the trinkets for protection pallies in SoO?

As far as I know, the current BiS trinkets are Thok's Tail Tip & the trinket from immerseus(the amp is far too strong, around 2800 haste if you use both trinkets), if you like me think its a waste of main stats using a int proc trinket, use the Vial of Living Corruption.

Most trinkets in SoO are purely situational tho, keep that in mind.

Where does the Stamina/reduced AOE damage trinket fit in the overall scheme? It dropped last night but I passed it to the Monk as he's lower ilevel (like maybe 515?) and was getting trainwrecked on bosses. Figured since it's stam it won't be that useful but might be situational.

Wait a sec... the trinket from Immerseus is +Intellect isn't it?

Our raid only has myself and a warrior in competition for Strength loot, so I was planning on picking up as many trinkets as possible and just swapping them around per boss. I'm sure our casters wouldn't be too happy if I took the Int one from Immerseus :P

It works on a lot of shit on the back end, breaths from Thok, vicious assault and so on. Those mechanics can be risky, so I'm not writing off it seeing some use. But as of yet I've yet to even consider it as a viable option, and that obviously hasn't hindered the raid as of yet.
I figure if it drops again I'll take it just to have it, because swapping trinkets, so it wasn't a big deal. I actually like not having "go-to" trinkets.

http://www.wowhead.com/item=102293 does indeed have an intellect proc, but the pure stat gain from the passive effect is quite nice, especially once you're able to have it boost haste and mastery decently.

AMP trinkets start to get strong only at high (550+?) gear level.
At my lowly 535 I have around 22k ratings total, so 7% amp gives a total of 1550 stats. Which is lower than ToT trinkets.
And, with our crit ratings, what, +1% healing?

Big problem with giving situational trinkets is they aren't mandatory, else your progress would be determined by RNG on loot. The worst are fights like Malkorok HM where the one fight that would have truly have benefitted from the CD reduction trinket...drops from that encounter. Completely counter intuitive to the design intent.

Think of it like this, after the first 9 bosses in HM SoO, I can say with absolute conviction that these utility trinkets (healing conversion, CD reduction, cleave, AoE reduction etc) attempt to solve a problem that doesn't exist.

It is possible the last 5 bosses will change my opinion, but simply put once the average player gets to HMs with 565 ilevel you won't be worried even consider utility that comes at the cost of so much haste/DPS output.

As for the int one, I feel the useless proc isn't enough to put it ahead of the Spark in terms of usefulness. I haven't bothered to delve much into end tier BiS loot.

Min-maxing such as what they attempted with trinkets must be left to talents/glyphs, ones where everything is actually avaliable for a given situation. Or else people will simply make do without them.
I agree with a lot of this. I will be picking up Thok's right away and swapping it out for my Feather though because the one thing I hate more than ANYTHING is having exp/hit (it's worse when it's hit) tied in to a trinket. I like being able to swap my trinkets in and out depending on the encounter and what I feel I might need without having to go reforge and shit. Trinkets are situational a lot of the time and having it tied to such a massive amount of hit isn't fun. Likely go with Spark and Amp trinket and pick up the CD reduction trinket as well. I have the stam with on use AOE reduction but only because no one wanted it really.
