If you have Battlefield 3 Premium yes but only on the platform you got BF3 Premium on.

If you don't have BF3 Premium then you will have to wait until Oct 4th.

Did they break hit reg again? It seemed fine about 5-6 months ago when I used to play (apparently they did some minor changes to improve the performance).

The biggest change for BF4 might actually be its support for AMD's Mantle API.
Which you can read about here: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/amd...d-4,24418.html

This should allow console level performance optimization on any GCN based Radeon GPUs, like my 7970s. Might give AMD a real performance advantage over Nvidia.

Most intrigued by the new weather effects and increased destruction, but I'm concerned that the destruction will be too scripted.

Not sure if I'm going to buy it.
To declare that a personal, inner experience gives certainty about the workings of the universe is to assign far too much value to one’s subjective sense of conviction.

I've died plenty of time to random destruction in BF3, I am sure it wont be scripted in 4, at least in MP.

Would be cool if you got ships again, and could launch Tomahawks from a destroyer and just collapse a building by a flag onto the other team trying to take it.

there is also a lot of small events like shutting down lights, poping road block on the bridge etc.

We have reached a point in gaming where a game can't look any better except improving details. At least BF has reached that point...other games have a long way to go.

    Sorry.
It supports DX11, I see no reason why they shouldn't include Vista.

I'm probably going to upgrade my HD6950 to a R9 290, maybe even a R9 290X. Wonder how the new Mantle API affects to game.

Revised engine, including new mechanics, game modes, and general combat changes. Countering knifes if attacked from the front or side (assuming you press the button in time), extremely improved weather effects, improved shaders, dynamic events that change how maps play, double-scopes, no annoying blue tint, more official naval combat (as opposed to just the small dingy's we had in BF2 and BF3). There's a whole load of new content in BF4 compared to BF3, and it's not just new maps. I think I speak for the majority when I say that many of us BF veterans (i.e. playing since BF2 or earlier days and haven't missed a single title since) simply want BF4 to fix what BF3 screwed up on (see points below), but the extra features they're bringing in have certainly impressed us initially.

For me, I'm impressed both as a gamer and even more as a developer (not of the game of course, but just in general). I'm impressed that they've added their dynamic events system. I'm impressed that the weather changes all follow a uniform design (i.e. clouds, wind, rough sees all react as you'd expect at the same time). I'm impressed that they're working with AMD to add support for some new tech that could improve frames by up to 900% (called 'Mantle') by bypassing DirectX and using extremely low level API's (the geek in me can't wait to see this system in action, especially since I've been looking at other developer complaints about DirectX implementation for over a year now). I'm impressed that they've actually listened to the community when building BF4 and have tried to address our concerns instead of saying 'requires new code' or 'technically impossible', or basically riding on the success of previous games to sell their new one. I'm impressed that they're building a tablet compatible version of commander mode system and integrating it with the game you're actually playing. I'm impressed that they didn't outsource the UI development this time (though I was very unimpressed when I learnt about that, so I should perhaps say that I'm glad they're doing the right thing this time).

Now, onto my thought's so far (very long part inc.).

When they said they were taking C4 away from Support, and 'suppression being the [only] reason to play one', I was really on the ropes about buying it. I like my LMG's, my entire playstyle in BF3 revolved around bipod's and extremely high rates of fire. It wasn't about having an awesome ratio of shots:hits, but about showering so much fire down on enemies that they couldn't effectively push through in small groups, or get setup and get shots off on me. C4 was used to destroy buildings from the outside more than anything, but it also did serve to throw up on a ceiling to clear people out hiding behind a tall object (such as the lockers on the lower level of Metro), and as road-traps for destroying tanks at times.

Taking away C4 from my role would have meant I'd be stuck with Claymores (I've not read about any changes to those, but I might have missed something). Sure, claymores were extremely useful at times, particularly on maps like Seine where I'd be upstairs covering the areas leading to flags. Having 2 claymores down stopped people almost every time.

The double-scope system would have been an absolute killer for me if it had been in BF3 as despite using an LMG traditionally limited to mid-range shots (LMG88), I was pretty good at predicting those longer shots. I did switch to the MG36 at times since the single-shot mode meant I could also make an effective sniper but with a 3.4x scope meaning no scope glint (anything < 4.0x didn't give off a glint), but it did mean I wasn't effective in close quarters. The LMG88 by contrast, was best suited without a scope, or with a very low mag. scope, simply because the scopes ended up affecting peripheral vision. With the MG36, since I was focusing on longer or more difficult shots, a medium mag. scope was most effective, but it made me much less effective at everything else. If I'd have the option to have 2 scopes, then I'd be in a great position.

    My big gripes about BF3;
    - The often poor hit detection
    - Explosive spam rate and their effects
    - Being able to destroy friendly ammo or health crates

The first one was a real frustration for me. You know, firing down a pretty open area but covered enough, hitting someone multiple times in the head, but them getting away with 30HP or whatever, it just takes the piss. The second one, explosives, particularly problematic with frag rounds and the M320-based weapons. Take a look at Metro rush. US team push the stairs up to the third area, Russians defend it. It became a sort of unwritten rule that whoever had more explosives would basically win. See, there's an overturned vendor or such on the left side (as you face towards the RU side) near the back stairs. It's possible to sit here and spam the M320 at the stairs on the far right side, and take out groups of enemies. You're not exposed to fire from them, and in fact it's very difficult if not impossible for their explosives to effectively hit you. More to the point, you can run to that spot as support, throw down ammo, suicide, respawn as assault with M320, and NEVER have to move. You can actually hit 2 sets of stairs, and the third and final set aren't far from you at all.

A little distance from this area, there's a point near one of the MCOM's where you can sit with a USAS with FRAG rounds, and hit the same set of stairs on the right side. You fire at the angled area above the stairs, and anyone on the stairs will take damage. This particular gun setup can fire ~12 rounds in about 3-4 seconds. You can take this gun as support, so you can also take an ammo box and never run out of ammo. I'll admit I've used USAS FRAG in the past. However, the only times I turned to it was when it was a case of bullets not being effective because a large number of other players were using them, or for effective suppression, or EVEN for long range shots that bullets can't hit (such as people hiding inside buildings hundreds of meters away - the drop is quite heavy, but countering it is easy, you could call it explosives sniping if you wish) - by default, I'd go with an LMG.

The final point isn't a major one, but still an annoyance. Many times, I'd go into games, and see friendly players destroying my (and other players) ammo or health crates "because they want the points". It's so fucking ridiculous and makes me rage so much when I see it and I will call them all the names under the sun for the way they're playing. I can deal with generally bad players, but those that are out to 'sabotage' games by doing this, I've no patience or reason to be respectful about it. It's as bad as those that sit behind your spawn, knowing that you can't move without losing spawn protection, and continue to camp and wipe you out before you can react. I'm not against a strong defense, but there's a point when it goes from a defense to an attack, and attacking from behind the enemies spawn because there was no physical protection from shots being fired in or out is as bad as someone on your team destroying friendly crates.

If there's 2 things I want fixed though, it'll be hit detection and explosives. I'm NOT against mortars (unless they're firing into spawn because someone is sat behind spawn spotting everyone), so the remote mortar in BF4 doesn't bother me. It's loadouts like USAS FRAG and weapons like M320 that need to go. The explosive radius, even post-nerf, was still enough to make it overpowering especially on closed maps. Perhaps it was a fault of the maps themselves, but I grew a very bad impression of the weapons themselves.

Another point I forgot to mention, was tanks. They shouldn't get stuck because there's a pebble in the road. This was extremely problematic on B2K and became one reason I stopped using tanks. Another point which I hit on earlier was spawn protection. I never understood why there wasn't a 'safe zone' where you couldn't fire in and couldn't fire out, and the maps should have been designed in such a way that it was physical protection such as a wall. Too often on Metro Conquest, I'd get stuck in RU spawn and have some absolute dickhead running in, taking a few of us out, before they got killed by out of bounds protection. Likewise, US team would often just get stuck in their spawn and not even have anywhere to hide. On Seine, the same would happen, and it was worse in that there were tanks on that, and open bases meaning mortars could hit you pretty easily. There should have been physical walls around spawns for the sake of an enjoyable experience. Perhaps do what some Sourceforts maps did and make the bases closed off areas where you had to jump out to the ground to get out, and you couldn't get back in after that. Don't have any areas where people can get setup to watch these bases without being taken out easily. There's never been an excuse for basecamping or baseraping on either side and physical objects between a team and the battlefield are the only way to make it look natural.

As long as my LMG88 and MG36 are still there though, I'll still be happy. The fact we can now customize our weapons beyond just the basic preset we had in BF3 is impressive. I liked BF3's customization system, but more customization is always good. If it means I can have an LMG88 that's effective for on the move, another that's effective for midrange suppression, and another that's effective for long range 'LMG sniping', then that's just fantastic. I can't wait for the beta on 01/10 so that I can actually take it for a spin.

Infantry combat is not 'on the side', it's definitely the main focus of the game. Yeah, sometimes people that are really good at flying jets or whatever might stay in it 100% of the time every map that has jets but there are still 31 other people on his team, most of them won't be in vehicles very long. It's truly meant to be played as a squad (you and up to three others than can spawn on each other, provide bonuses to, etc) so it might be easier to take down vehicles that cross your path if you have a guy or two in your squad that are good at dealing with them. Vehicle combat is just part of most maps and it can be very annoying at times, particularly when you're being killed by a bunch of pussbags in vehicles 1,000 yards away, but without them the game just wouldn't feel as...dangerous, I guess. In my time in BF3 I would say about 1/5 of all my deaths are from vehicles while maybe 1/20 of my kills are from vehicles, I just don't use them that much and depending on the map often the vehicles won't even bother you if you aren't near them. As far as pugs go, the trouble is that most people just don't know how to deal with them or they just ignore them which can make them seem to be a bigger threat than they really are.

I'm hoping the open beta changes my mind about the game. I love battlefield but I put way to much time into bf3 so bf4 atm doesn't look too great for me. I guess ill need to wait and see but I'm optimistic.

Been thinking about what else I really want to see improved in BF4, and it's a problem I have had since the BF3 beta, I CANT SEE WHO I AM SHOOTING AT!

100% serious here, most of the time I end up not shooting at players, but rather the little gui marker, because I cant really see the player. Which is annoying, and I dont understand the point of making players so hard to see in a game that marks their location on your screen.

I just CAN'T wait yet another level-up shooter where I have to spend tens of hours just to get one weapon I'd like to play with.

"Tens of hours" haha, what will it be next? "Tens of minutes". So many whiny people, if you're really that lazy and impatient buy the gun pack for christs sake, they implemented it to suck money from lazy people like you, so use it.

OT: I'm so excited to see Mantle in action, I don't even have an AMD GPU and I'm excited about it. I hope it's open source so NVIDIA can get their hands on it as well. I'd love to see a move away from Microsoft as a whole, SteamOS + Mantle. So much awesomeness.

IKR, I see this mentality more and more: I WANT IT NOW GIMME GIMME GIMME. It's become rampart in a certain other MMO >.>

I am curious to see how Mantle will work out, it looks really exciting and if Nvidia does something similiar maybe we won't see so many unoptimised games go to release.

I think it's time I retire my ol' GTX 580 and get a new R9 GPU when it releases.

These hoops to get weapons serve absolute NO POINT, other than trying to artificially lock player into one game (time is limited, if X takes enough time maybe he doesn't get Y, the competition) and to appeal the OCD crowd who needs constant "upgrades" so that they can feel good and justified to play the game with something to look forward (Because nowdays, just playing the game simply isn't enough amirite)

They serve as nothing more but glorified achievements except now they can have negative impact on both balance AND overall enjoyment of the game.

I am not the sort of guy who needs to be constantly rewarded just for playing the game and would rather do so on my own terms when the system itself serves absolutely no other point.

It's not like there is no differences between character centric RPG in a persistent online world and online shooter like BF. The only thing even REMOTELY relatable would be if this certain other MMO only consisted of battlegrounds in out of game lobby or BF serie was like PlanetSide
