I have recently been wondering why so many ass-hats try to out outdo each other in the various forms of making WoW a generally unhappy place.

I think it started with the Leeroy video all those years ago, Since then its become "the thing" people do for "attention" in WoW.

Current new ones:

Killing Huolon on the very top of the bridge so people can't loot him.
Pulling the firecow super elite mobs into groups of players.
Killing albatross's

That's just a few from Timeless, I witnessed today and find it such low behaviour it makes me question why I bother sharing the same game with such morons..

Do you think the entire "disruptive behaviour fad" has gone on way too long now?

Griefing and asshattery is natural result of lack of consequences in game. Back in vanilla/tbc/wotlk, it was much easier to "punish" asshole, and thus they general population was lower. If you ninjaed something, someone would remember and be like "don't invite him to group". If you were rude asshole, you could find yourself in nasty spot looking for guild (i myself had situation in our guild when, after quite a strong recruitment during summer, one of our officers after coming back from vacation booted 2 guys, simple because "he had bad experiences with them")

In cata/mop, blizzard moved more into single player experience, where guild/group/friends don't really matter. Alot of people play purely for LFR/LFG and they interact only with strangers. And why would you care about strangers ? It gotten even worse with all that cross realm business, when you literally will never see these people again. Right now people know they can grief, troll, and bully as much as they want, because nothing will happen to them.

Can someone explain what asshat is? I know its a insult but its not a very phasing insult at least to me. all I picture is a ballcap with 2 asscheeks on it and at that point i snicker, and as a avid hat collector and wearer id wear a asshat for lols.

trolling is something people do in ALL games, over WHOLE the world.
World of Warcraft is just 1 place they come to too.

It's something that exists in all games on the Internet, and even in the real world, not just WoW. People who get their enjoyment through the suffering of others have always existed, and will probably always exist.

Trolls are very old indeed.
Their regeneration passive is pretty OP.

It's a result of WoW essentially having no real moderation, and no consequences for most of your actions. Blizzard is way overly hands off than they should be with this stuff.

NOT to mention there's a lot of mechanics that seem to ENCOURAGE you to be an asshole. The way tagging works, especially, is bad, for anything in the game that doesn't share that 5.2 and onwards shared tagging thing.

2 friends and I took those dudes frozen in ice on hyjal that are on a ledge and you do the quest to pick up some metal to break them out. well we typhooned and thunderstormed it off that ledge all the way to org to plant him right in front of the AH in org.

I also kited prince thunderan to org. it was pretty epic to see a massive hammer sitting in org. ill have to dig up one of the screen shots
