Not surprised really. Game is still in the same spot as when i last played it one year ago.

No, it's in a worse spot.
Last year we could still hope that their China launch would go well. Now? Not so much.

This is sad news. This game had so much promise. I had a lot of fun playing this with a good friend during beta and when it came out. I think the last time I was moderately invested in it was two halloweens ago. It was like a true open world Destiny before Destiny existed and could have been that good. Oh well...I enjoyed the times I did play.
BAD WOLF
I must say I haven't seen much advertising for this game at all.
Also it seems like they have had so many plans on things to add and change stuff but very little happened. Perhaps it tooks so long they lost many players in the long run.
Quite a big cutoff in staff as well, how many are there even left?:P

Eh, it's not good enough.
I mean, when we talk about those life support MMOs, we are usually talking about 4 to 5 thousand players.
A development team of 175ish is a very large, expensive staff for a small MMO.
I mean, Rift's development team was around that large and their game is massive.
I think they are probably going to start on a new game (if they can secure funding) or shuttering.

Was being sarcastic. Mostly. Its such a shame. I praised the game when they went from horizontal to vertical , when they added levels, perks etc. It seemed like they were finally gonna do sonething with the game. But then they didn't. At this point i think i'd rather have the old horizontal progression game back.

Wonder if this will launch on PS4 like they said, with these lay offs.

Honestly, I'm a bit skeptical. Depends on how much money they have left and/or if they can get some additional funding. Really, given that the game apparently hasn't blown up in China yet that will be the absolute last straw for them. Hopefully they can find success somewhere, but at this point I'm pretty doubtful : /
Horizontal progression from patch .6 + UltimaSages patch .8 crafting / constraints + Xenogenics classes from patch .7 = fun core game.
They could have just added content from patch 1.0 to that formula and I would still be playing.

""The cuts were from basically every department and didn't follow any kind of rhyme or reason, and they definitely weren't performance based," an affected employee told MMORPG anonymously."
That sounds like a budget cut, not a restructuring.

Just a heads up, there's a R5 Studios not only had to fire at least 10 staff on Christmas, but they weren't able to make payroll this month.
This isn't exactly a surprise, but it's probably the end.

I'll never understand whats going on with these companies. Then again i'm not upper management tier but hey. For whatever its worth, why the fuck invest in a company to continue development of a game, release it in other markets and then 1 year later start budget cutting , firing employees etc? Really odd that this stuff can happen. Eh.

I'm honestly surprised it lasted this long.
