    Raid composition problems.

    Hello!

A group of friends and myself have started to play WoW again and we are trying to sort out our 10 man raid comp.

Everyone is playing what they want to play but we have a lot of plate wears, raid comp is --

    Prot Pally
    Prot Warrior/or DK (?)
    2x Arms Warrior
    Rogue
    2x Hunters
    Elemental Shaman(?)
    Resto Shaman
    Holy Pally

(?) = person doesn't know if he wants to tank on his DK or play an Elemental Shaman

Basically, everyone thinks we have too much plate wears/no ranged dps. Can this raid comp work at all?

Having a ton of melee isn't ideal for most encounters and stacking classes that tend to share loot isn't the best idea. It can cause loot drama issues (hopefully it doesn't) but at best case scenario it will slow down how long it's going to take to gear up those characters since they do have all that loot shared. You also have have potentially 7 of your players on the protector token as well for tier gear.

Since it is a fairly new guild and raid group I would tend to suggest that you let your friends play what they want to play. It really only matters if you want to be a cutting edge guild or min/max everything the best as possible. If they have time to re-level a new toon or have an interest in possibly playing another class, you might want to urge them to do so. Best of luck with your raids!

Honestly, that's just a horrible setup. The only positive thing, is that you actually got all buffs covered - thanks to 2 Hunters with their pets.

If you got Pally/Warrior tank setup, you have 7 people on the Protectors token. If you go Pally/DK tank setup, you only have 5 but then you're still short a person - a healer I guess?

You got 2 people on the Conqueror token and either 1 or 2 on the Vanq token.

Without the DK, you don't have a combat res - unless one Hunter plays BM and uses a CR pet. And if you do that, you'll either miss out on Crit or Spell Haste. Spell Haste would really only affect your healers but still. And if the Hunter with the CR pet then dies, you sorta got a problem - unless the other Hunter is also BM and can summon a CR pet and ress, then dismiss it and summon back the buff pet. But yeah, not really optimal^^

You have 3 melee, you know that's not optimal in any way.

Nobody to take leather intel gear, nobody to take cloth gear and in stead you have 3 people who're all after the same off pieces i.e trinkets, rings and necks. You don't have 2 of the best dps classes atm. - Locks and Mages. You only get hybrid healing, if the dude plays Ele in stead of Blood DK.

Sorry but unless you're extremely casual and just wanna do Flex or something, this setup is really bad.

If you want to do Flex and some normals, even having insanely 'bad' composition will get you somewhere.
If people start bitching you can start pointing out the problem.
Your 'optimal' solution would be to convince one warrior to play a druid, moonkin with resto offspec and the DK to play tank. Then find a warlock.

Clearing heroics at a steady pace with 3 melee (Feral,Ret,Rogue) with our ranged being a Hunter and either a lock or Mage. 3 Melee is always workable unless you're aiming for top 100 material which requires raiding more than 3 nights a week.

That being said, having 2 arms warriors and 2 hunters is a bit silly unless you're just aiming for normal modes, because like people have said, you have a lot of gear going to waste. But most serious groups run 12+ members because real life happens and one person missing a night shouldn't mean having to just skip the night. Which means you can recruit a clothie (probably a spriest to take spirit cloth) and 1-2 others to fill spots

    Similar probleme here.

    2x Mage, 1x WL = 3 cloth
    2x Rouge, 1x Feral/Bear = 3 leather

for DPS... altough we're raiding with this setup quite a long time. But it's frustrating when there is always plate DD or heavy armor dropping for 2nd gear or DE. And when it's cloth or leather, 3 ppl want to have it altogether (ofc with some 2nd stats preferences). + no haste for caster. Kicking member is also unacceptable as they are all good players.

It's ok, but not optimal for loot distribution and diverse raid support.

Quilen also bring 5% crit besides the CR, and you always could have w/e pet normally and summon a Quilen as BM if somebody dies, but I agree... being on CR duty as a hunter sucks.

    1. switching pets takes time, which is especially bad if a tank dies, because when it happens, things usually go sour quickly.
    2. Quilen CR CD (10 min) doesn't reset after wipes, which means you'll have to have 2-3 quilen in your backpack and switch them around after each try.
    3. The pet has to be in 20 yd range to the corpse, which means you'll probably have to order your pet back to you and then play the "where is the body?" game until you can finally rezz someone.

*edit: Actually, the quilen CD seems to reset now, at least if the pet is not in your backpack during the wipe/kill. Good to know.

Needs more range and a better armor token split...get people to reroll if you want to have an easier time.

It can work but you will need to put in a lot more work than a more evenly distribute group to get as far IMO. If it's a "let's kill what we can while playing what we want group" that will focus on flex and some normal then go for it IMO. However if you want to push progress be it normal or heroic and move fast then you are setting yoruself up for a hard time due to

A lot of the loot will be shared / wanted by many people. This is bad from the get go as RNG can dump all over your group and provide you little to no upgrades week in week out!

Melee will also make things harder on you as there are quite a fiew encounters I can think of that having ranged make it a joke while melee would make it hell.... thinking of if Galakras fireball with a lot of melee will be fun... ball on melee run far out lower dps....ball on melee again....again...etc etc! Having 1 ranged in 10 man along with your 2 tanks is about the max I feel comfy with tbh. Having that much is just asking for trouble! Hell... Malkokrok run out and get in the bad shit will be hell... run away...do 0 dps....run abck to boss....hit....runaway to get to a circle....etc etc.

Let's be honest loot helps get shit dead and you are gimping the amount of upgrades yoru overall group can get per week with that composition and melee in general this raid makes things harder on dps, movement and healers.

So you CAN do it with this group the question is do you WANT to and do you MIND then extra work it will involved > a ranged / balanced loot distribution team?

I admire you for running 3 melee, I'd never have the nerve to do that. But when you do have to run 3 melee, you have the 2 best currently - Feral and Rogue. Big difference in utility/hybrid healing/buffs they bring from 2x Warriors+Rogue tbh. Also, I'd say that running 3 melee and clearing Heroics, you probably have some really good players. The easier Heroic bosses can be done with 3 melee but the have fun on Shamans with 3 melee.

Anyways, the OP isn't aiming for such content, so this was a side note.
