    Battlegrounds in Actual World Areas

I'm not a huge PVPer, but I do enjoy some PVP from time to time. However, something that constantly takes me out of it is the fact that so many battlegrounds (almost all of them actually) are in some secret parallel universe not available outside of the battleground instance. The Isle of Conquest, AV, AB, EoTS, WSG etc etc etc... they all don't exist in the game world outside of their battleground instance (I believe that the battle for Gilneas is the only exception).

I dunno, maybe I'm weird but part of the fun of an MMO to me is the game world and being a part of that world. Whatever you are doing you know that it is part of this virtual world inhabited by various other characters (players and NPC's alike). Having battlegrounds be these invisible places that you only get to by sitting in a queue kind of ruins everything for me.

I'd like to see more battlegrounds in areas that we all recognize and visit. How about Tarren Mill, a battle at the Gates of Origrimmar or Stormwind? A battleground in Ashenvale between the two cities there? A battleground in Swamp of Sorrows.... Blasted Lands near the Dark Portal? Anywhere really. I just think it would be a little more engaging.

    Good idea?

No. Just no. Look I appreciate that there are people who would love this sort of thing but I play on PVE realms just for the reason that they don't have things like this going on. It would be a nightmare getting into or out of Stormwind if players had to fight to get past attacking Horde players. Especially since there are lots of us who don't want to PVP. If we wanted to we'd que up for Battlegrounds or roll on a PVP server. Honestly if Blizzard actually had live PVP events like this going on all the time even in PVE realms I'd have to seriously reconsider my subscription.

It's not that it's a bad idea, it's just that it wouldn't work in WoW. World pvp objectives stopped getting implemented once WotLK was released, simply because a) they tended to be really one-sided or inactive, and b) players like the separation of of pve and pvp.

I don't believe he wants actual events in the world, just for the instanced battleground to be a recognisable area. Somewhere when zoning in, you remember questing in that place or whatever.

Kinda like how Siege of Orgrimmar takes place in recognisable areas of Orgrimmar.

If that's not what he means, then bugger it, I can't be arsed with all that PvP malarky.

That's how I interpreted it. Even if it wasn't intended that way, though, I think it's a good idea. It's not like the current battlegrounds are canonically occurring 24/7 anyway, and, like you said, the Siege of Orgrimmar is an instance that takes place in an actual location, so I don't see what the harm would be in setting a battleground in an actual place in the world that might have skirmishes at it regularly.

Also, Battle for Gilneas does not take place in a real area either. It was originally going to take place in the city, which you can visit, but the setting was changed when the battleground was redesigned.

Yea, I think a few of you misinterpreted what I was saying. I didn't mean that I wanted to see world PVP objectives... but rather instanced battlegrounds set in areas that actually exist in the world.

I think that'd be a good idea, it's always frustrated me that BG's have never taken place in the "real world". It'd also be kind of nice if they actually put the current BG's on the map somewhere though that will likely never happen.

In any case this is a pretty good idea, because it not only provides a better sense of immersion, but also requires a lot less work on Blizzard's part, meaning more BG's can be made to satisfy PvPers.

I don't really see the benefit. All the BGs take place in zones, anyway. Alterac Valley is in Alterac Mountains, Arathi Basin is in Arathi Highlands, WSG is where Barrens meets Ashenvale, etc.

I'm not sure why it needs to be more than that. Personally I'm all for more battlegrounds as long as they keep the mechanics interesting and slightly different, but I don't really understand why it matters if they're in areas you can't access normally or not.

It's just a matter of immersion. I know a lot of people don't care about it... but it matters to me and a lot of players. I would just find it kind of neat and engaging.

Should we make raid entrances as big as actual raid also? Like Naxxramas (necropolis flying in Dragonblight) as big as Dragonblight itself? Or Fireland "castle" (where portal is) bigger than entire Mount Hyjal area? Or make additional zone for Ulduar (raid and dungeons) because small island and 3 portals is sooooooooo boring?

Go check Ahn'qiraj ruins area. How many people are there? There's no one! Why do you need more zones like this?

    No thanks

I think the pvp objectives in Krasarang worked out fairly well actually. Tol Barad also wasn't THAT bad.

Before there was flying, there was the illusion that these battlegrounds took place far beyond our reach, with the instance entrances being where they were for the older BGs; WSG, AB, and AV. Around the time BC released, they stopped doing this for any of the newer BGs, leaving you to only assume where the locations of these places are.

Atleast the Isle of Conquest is at a known location if you look off in the distance of the cobalt mines, and the Strand of the Ancients is an island off the coast and isnt in some magical warp zone on the land itself.
