    Fix Our Disc! (Plz ^^)

Hiya everyone - our lovely and loyal disc is a strange one. He's kinda inconsistant: some nights hes amazing others he's not but we're used to this - but recently, since patch I suppose, he's not done so well. He says priest feels strange but I'm know NOTHING about disc and would appreciate a look over/input regarding his stats and a few WoL's to boot. He raids with a MW Monk and a Resto Shaman and we're 1HC SoO 10m.

    His armory: http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/characte...ackie/advanced

    Some recent WoL's:
    - http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/rt-w06xykvb8rd5r46l/
    - http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/r...m/healingDone/

Just would love to know what is happening.

Many thanks for your time and effort it really is appreciated!

Ill let some of the more experienced disc look over his rotation and ability usage.

As far as gear goes, he doesn't appear to be upgrading anything. He's got a few pieces that he will likely keep until further into heroics and he's not upgrading any of them, trinket/wep should be very high priority to upgrade.

He looks to be a bit high on spirit, that's more of a personal preference. I run around 9k, rarely finding myself go oom, especially with the changes to rapture. They severely devalued any spirit beyond 8k now. With disc in its current position, throughput is very valuable, a crit or mastery heavy build usually will fill that role nicely.

Was looking at your heroic protectors attempts, as I'm assuming that's the fight you're struggling with currently.
In comparison to our logs, you guys are getting absolutely wrecked. Incoming damage is through the roof. Your last pull specifically, for about half the fight you were sitting over 1 million dps incoming. Meaning your healers have to be doing on average 300k ea sustained to match this. Ours we idle around the 500-600k mark, and spike to 800k for very brief sections. The largest chunk of your damage seems to be coming from garotte, (which can be bopped btw, to quickly deal with a few of the heavier dots or when its most urgent). Sha sear and poison also appear to be doing a lot of damage, likely due to people not moving after a garrote hits them or someone nearby or just plain stacking too close to everyone. Pushing out of each phase faster, will help a lot with this as well, as stuff like SW:Bane gets cleared each time tenderheart pushes.

I don't play disc much but from checking my logs with our disc priest and those logs his power word shield usage looks like that is all he's casting, our disc has Aegis top then spirit shell then pom and poh then shields, he could atonement a little more, i play holy so i'm just comparing his usage spells to our disc priest, as i'm not disc i can't really comment further.

He cast Heal more times in five H Protectors attempt than most disc priests have this entire expansion.

I noticed that they do not appear to be making very good use of archangel. They could be using it twice as many times as they did on some attempts... Other bosses they used it only twice (spoils). Further, they are not using spirit shell in line with archangel. This is arguably poor play:

    http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/r...YPE_CAST%29%29

I'm not saying they absolutely should. However, it is questionable that they would take power infusion, pop this with spirit shell along with inner focus, but then not also use archangel to maximize their throughput.

Twist of Fate is generally the go to talent for every add fight for disc as well.

Don´t know what is wrong, but i will post you our log from Immerseus hc.

    http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/7...?s=1158&e=1786

I don´t think so i am good disco still to learn to use shells more, but you can easy compare that something is wrong with your priest because i did this log with 530 ilvl with gear from Tot normal/hc including normal 530 weapon. With his gear he should be far higher with almost everything from me in numbers....

    - he has mastery higher than crit which is wrong, crit is always the best stat to go in this patch
    - no upgade on weapon is a joke?:/
    - instead of gemming int+spirit or pure int he has to go to crit+int or crit+spirit
    - glyph of penance should be there also because in most fights you have to move quickly and very often

    This!

    Never use Heal.

Some things i started doing recently and makes Disc feel so wonderful.
Changed playstyle back to 5.1-5.2 and trying to create alot of DA without sacrificing the damage from smite, meaning something like the following.
Archangel on cd if you dont need it for a specific phase.
Cascade on cd if you dont need it for a specific phase. (Loves the amount of DA it creates)
Inner Focus on cd if you dont need it for a specific phase.

Love the damage Disc Priests bring to a raid so you should always use the Penance glyph, i often use the Inner Sanctum one with either Smite glyph or holy fire glyph if i need the range.

    So basicly.
Spamm smite (Penance and Holy Fire on cd makes you an ever better disc so dont let them be there 3 sec without using them! This doesnt apply if there is heavy raid damage)

Archangel followed by Cascade (I do this even if people are at 100% hp if i know damage is about to come, if ALOT of damage is inc you should use SS)

Use Inner Focus on cd with either PoH or Greater Heal on tank (Greater heal reduces the cd so you can use it more, but i prefer using it on PoH)

Make sure you have PoM jumping on the raid so something to track it is great.

Poh if its raid damage or just continue smiting if you know the other healer can cover it (I often just continue smiting and have my friend heal some more if i know he is good/can make it)

They nerfed Rapture but its still a free PW:S and you get mana back because thats a global you could have used for smiting and that smite would have taking mana. So something to track Rapture cd is still needed.

Stat weights for Disc Priests are the following.
Haste > Crit > Mastery (This is if everyone isnt topped and is in need of healing, haste sacrifices mana so most people dont chose to go for it but on some bosses its really awezome).

Crit > Mastery > Haste (The "standard" stat weights for Discs. Since haste takes more mana they put it last)

Crit > Haste > Mastery (The one im running most of the time, since haste really is good i want it more than mastery)

Haste > Mastery > Crit (For the Priest that loves to spamm PW:S with the goal of doing so much hps he can, dont think Haste is the best stat if you are this person in 10 man since the lowering of GCD doesnt matter that much since there is only 10 people in the raid).

Mastery > Crit > Haste (For the Priest that loves to spamm PW:S or on bosses like Dark Shamans were PW:S is used on the tank all the time, i used this when we progressed on the boss, if you are running this on Shamans i recommend the DI talent! I used this because i wanted to get more absorbs out there. Mastery is superior to crit if you cast 1 PW:S every ~5 sec)

Right now im recommend going for Crit > Haste > Mastery!

I see he is using the Healing legendary cloak and that is something i stopped doing as Disc. Since we cant crit the back is not as good for us and the Dps one is helping out the raiddps!

Some people already stated the fact that he got like 2 gear pieces upgraded. Upgrading weapon is big!

The new trinkets arent as good for Disc as other healers aswell so he shouldnt be in a rush to take them over his friendly healing partner(s). Horridon trinket is awezome!

I see he got 1 160 int gem that he could change, i do however agree that he choses 320 int gems from JC over crit or spirit ones!

He got alot of 80 int + 160 crit gems that i wouldnt use, he only got 12k spirit so if he is effecive (always casts something, smite if there is no damage, penance if he have to move etc) i guess he would go oom. Myself i use something like 13-14k spirit and i´ve been feeling oom lately. So my tip is to switch yellow ones to 160 spirit + 160 crit and focus on using more mana.

On your Spoils kill 40% of his healing comes from PW:S so one could argue he could switch to Mastery reforge but i would rather have him change his playstyle into more smiting, however you are a "non-hardcore" guild(?) so i guess you play mostly for fun so he can do whatever he finds the most fun.

He heals ALOT with Binding heal and tbh i havent even tried it since ToT since i didnt find it that good back then so i wont tell him to much about it. Myself i almost NEVER use it.

On spoils his Cleave trinket healed for 64458 and his Legendary back healed for 549509 during a 8 min long try.

On your Protector fight his Trinket and Cloak healed for little to nothing aswell. 35% of all his healing comes from PW:S so i just have to say Mastery reforge might fit this guy better.

    And i guess thats it!

I don't ever use Heal or Binding Heal. It's Atonement during low damage phases and POM/SS/Halo for high raid wide damage. Apart from that, I keep POM up and Shield at least every 12 seconds and additionally if you are expecting high damage on single players (e.g. players that take mines during iron juggernaut encounter). Regarding the stats: I feel comfortable with 9000-10'000 Spirit. Otherwise I focus on Crit without neglecting Haste. I personally prefer the Healing Legendary cloak to the DPS one, at least on challenging fights where the additional Healing is very useful.

I personally find Disc priest the hardest healer specc to learn and master, the main difficulty coming from proper use of PWS/SS and switching between Atonement/normal Healing. It looks like your priest may feel more comfortable going Holy.

Skip the healer cloak and go for Yu'lon, on the dark shamans for us it did 3.5 million damage.
I would change his glyphs, I use penance and holy fire for every fight and then I change the third to either inner fire or inner sanctum depending on what type of aoe damage going out is.

From what I can see compared to my own spell usage he is doing it somewhat right, but to only use penance twice in a fight (dark shamans log) is rather disturbing.

And another point is that I permanently change my 75 and 90 talent depending on fight. Twist of Fate is basically legendary awesome now, I had 68% uptime on that fight, basically a free 15% boost to both damage and healing.
And finally he seems to be saving archangel, I popped mine 9 times and he did 3. That should be popped basically on CD, combine that with a crit build and you get very nice DA generation.

And what the above guy is mentioning about spirit, well I think he is bonkers for running at 14k spirit. I run with 9500-10000 and have yet to have problems with mana on any fight.

Finally change mindbender to solace and insanity talent, using 5 solace per minute grants better regen than minbender on use.

Oh and my personal preference is to socket pure crit in yellow/prismatic, crit/int in red and crit/spirit in blue which seems to work wonders for me. I recently felt that with a spellpower over 40k int just doesn't do as much as going for crit does.

I agree with the heal comments, I don't think I have cast heal more than maybe 5 times ever on my Disc.

  11. #11
Never fully went that much into Solace vs Mindbender, always used Mindbender because using solace isnt a dps increase, right?

  12. #12
The "Heal" comments are absolutely correct.

It looks like he could be planning his Spirit Shells better, as well as just generally working on predicting damage a little more. Holy might be a better fit for a more reactive style player, which it looks to me that he is. Trying to do Disc on Thok is also an especially bad idea, it'd be a great fight to practice Holy with all the instant-casts and cooldowns that can be cast on the raid without getting interrupted.

I'm struggling with it as well. The hardest part is the shifting between Atonement and normal healing, I just find it very difficult to make that transition with regards to shifting to Grace maintenance on tanks. I'm fine with moving from Atonement to SS/PoM/PoH/Halo (or whichever) but it's that other transition that's very awkward. The other part is Penance and shifting between using it for Atonement and direct healing.
And I do like Binding Heal as it's more efficient than Flash Heal (at least according to HealCalc in my current gear).

It all comes down to practice I'm sure, and my Priest is very much an alt (Resto Shaman is my main) but I'm stubbornly sticking with Disc over Holy as Disc is just so different. Holy is more straight forward in execution but not really worth playing as an alt as it's not *that* different from my Shaman.

Hey guys! Is it okey if I borrow this thread?

I have very little knowledge about priest healing, but I'm pretty sure our priest is doing something wrong on Thok (normal 10man).

    Here are some logs:

http://worldoflogs.com/reports/zyxe1...?s=8583&e=9020 (Holy specced on this one)
    http://worldoflogs.com/reports/zyxe1...?s=5076&e=5608 (holy again :>)
    http://worldoflogs.com/reports/zyxe1...?s=1562&e=1854 (disc)

Would be very greatful for any advice I can give him.

    Cheers! /Yngver

Aside from that awkward Renew (why would it even be in his cast bar), he looks great as disc. Thok is pretty much PoH until it takes too long to cast, PoM, FH procs, PWS spam and SS with paladin HoS (or whatever it's called). There's nothing else he could do. He's going to have a hard time against HPS healers.

Divine Star over Cascade will make a huge difference.

He only used Inner Focus 3 times, and especially if he's struggling that's a good thing to use in combination with spirit shell. I tend to be bad about it too with the spell locking.

Why does he have windsong on his wep? It's showing up in buffs gained.

His archangel uptime is pitiful, and this is a healing intensive fight-- not sure why he'd do that.

He should be ToF, not power infusion, on that fight. If anything DI is still better than PI-- though ToF is preferable.

Divine Star is a much better talent on that fight, there isn't a lot of healing going on outside of the stacked phases (it does 30% of my healing and I know I'm 25m but that's a lot better than the less than 5% he's getting with cascade.

He used Holy Fire rarely, sometimes less than 5 times during a 4 minute attempt. It should be used on CD o as close to that as possible.

Alternatively, you can look at my logs, though 25m, the spell selection is about equal. He'll probably get more out of SS than I do.
I think if he switches to DS he'll see a huge improvement right away.
