    Paladins and nostalgia.

Hey all, so I've been playing my paladin since I started playing WoW which was right around the release of WotLK. Over the years I've made changes to what my "main" is and become known as a huge altoholic around my guild but I always end up back on my paladin. No matter what class I play, how OP they are, how much fun another class is, I always end up back with my paladin. It's sort of a nostalgia thing I guess. Anytime I make a new, more fun class my "main" I end up thinking "but I've been a paladin for so long and I miss it, let's go back" and I do.

So this got my wondering, how many of you play your paladin simply out of nostalgia or just because you've always done it that way? How many just stick to their paladin just because of the time invested?

I know, to me at least, the current play style of ret is my favorite of all time and I do enjoy it, but sometimes I find other classes more interesting, yet still end up with my paladin.

Disclaimer: I haven't played much in 5.3 release-present due to basic training but have dabbled a little bit here and there...enough to get a timeless isle helm and not transmog it :/

What's everyone else's thoughts? Interested to see if there's a lot in my boat.

I started wow all together in wotlk derp time. Paladins description in the starting screen sounded the best to me...little did I know in a couple weeks I'd be popping wings and derping all over everyone in BGs with divine storm :P wasn't my fault!

First time I fired up the game, back in 2006, I played a mage. Couldn't get into it, but I really wanted to be an undead character. A few friends of mine were Alliance back then so I looked through the races/classes and settled on a paladin.
They were a mess back then, but I loved the class. Everything that I do gets done on my paladin first (minus profession specific things) before I attempt it on an alt. Sure...I dive off every once in a while to play my Warlock or my Warrior...but I rarely have as much fun as I do on my loladin.

Wishing they'd bring back Divine Intervention though. Of all of the changes they've made to the paladin class, that was the one that made me saddest.

I enjoyed the wotlk playstyle both as retri and as prot than now. It all became of "priority" instead of a steady rotation. The nostalgic part is that most of the icons has changed aswell, do miss the old ones.

I started in WOTLK too (I loved how Palas played then, dislike it now tbh). For me though it wasn't so much nostalgia I have always played Paladin-like characters in D&D (whether a Paladin or not) so it was the natural choice. I abandoned him around Firelands though for a Prot Warrior which at the time felt more visceral and fun, but went back to my Paladin in ToT because they were OP.

I played paladins back in TBC. When Seals lasted for like 30 seconds and were removed when you casted judgement, blessings lasted 5 mins (blessing of wisdom and salvation anyone?) and, ABOVE ALL, RECKONING!

    Dat talent was so amazing.

    playing since vanilla with paladin.
everytime i think i should reroll im simply watching tales of the past III and remember the reasons i love my paladin

I started as a Warlock in Vanilla, and I was horde so Pallys were an option. Halfway through BC I had knee surgery and was bedridden for awhile. I decided to roll a Paladin since it was available as Horde. I started healing for my guild, and I guess I found my calling. I've also changed "mains" multiple times, but no matter what happens, I always seem to end up back on the paladin. This is for both PvE and PvP.

As for nostalgia, I remember when HPals gemmed full Crit and spammed Holy Light like it was going out of style.

And of course, if you played back then, who could forget the quest chain for the mount?

I play a paladin since late Vanilla and just like you I always end up back on my paladin. What do I do to keep myself hooked?

Watching 40+ videos of paladin nonsense make me smile all the time

Been a fan of Paladins since my D&D and Ultima days, when i picked up wow there was only one logical choice . I have very fond memories on my Paladin being my first character and man was i a noob... . Like someone else pointed out i do miss old school paladin play style such as divine storm being our nuke and AOE being our forte or equipping furious gladiator's libram of justice for flash of light spam in Ulduar or the god of holy paladin librams: Libram of Renewal (our healing epeen would never be the same without you dear friend).

Lol I remember these videos masterpieces, the video maker used to post these all the time and people who fell for it would lose their shit completely and rage so hard on forums at him. Master troll.

I loved those how to paladin vids, that goofy music coupled with a belf dancing in high speed still makes me laugh now.
So much nostalgia but I think the thing I miss the most, besides divine intervention which somebody already mentioned, is the old seal of casino. Those moments when you were begging for it to proc on somebody in a hoj and watching them melt if it did, mmm.

Greater Blessings already existed in The Burning Crusade, ooh the luxury.

I kind of agree, despite leveling most of the classes to a fairly reasonable level I've always stuck with Paladin pretty much since it dinged 70, I originally hit it Christmas Day(night) mid TBC, and only went back to my Shaman for a brief couple of weeks after that. Don't get me wrong, I've tried to switch it up, re-applied to my guild touting Warrior/Priest/Druid/Mage in my line up of chars to play back in Wrath, but they wanted me as a Paladin. I definitely miss the old times though. Illumination, Flash of Light tickling/Holy light bombing, Judgements of the Pure (still don't know how I didn't need a timer for that), Holy Shield (bonk bonk bonk, sec guys my shield is red) and most of all I miss ICC Ret, that was great fun and the following patch's haste ridiculousness that followed was great fun, shame about how that transitioned into early Cata.

Yeahhhh just like this, always /try/ to play something else but feel this proverbial need to play paladin and therefore do.

The oldest of old school Paladins was Leeroy. I mean he's so legendary that even in Dark Souls you can get the Paladin armor set from Leeroy. But the next best thing was Zalgradis. At least IMO it was Zalgradis, cause even though it's a PvP video it does have a fair bit of comedy. There were other greats like Dernos and Slayton who helped create www.retpaladin.com which is now a dead website. Slayton also created a number of PvP videos which are now dead and missing. I may upload them since I kept a couple of them on my HD.
