    Gathering Leather/Hides for Leathworking

I was looking through a few FFXIV websites today trying to get a feel for leveling the crafting professions. However, I could not find anything that referenced how you obtain the leather/hides that are required to craft items for Leatherworking.

I have not trained the Leatherworking profession yet, but I have noticed a few pieces of leather/hide in my inventory. Do you get a "skinning" type skill when you train Leatherworking or do you only get the leather/hides from drops off of mobs?

Yeah, they just drop off of monsters. The part I disliked about Leatherworking is that the leather types become monster specific after the second one. And when you go to those few spots where the enemies are, there will likely be level 50 characters one-shotting them all trying to farm them. They're not even a guaranteed drop; you may have to kill 10 just to get a single skin.

This database website might be helpful to show what drops where:

You'll be able to get up to 15+ with just vendor mats, but after that you'll have to start farming.

    Aldgoats are in Eastern Thanalan.
Boars are best farmed north of Hawthorne Hut in Eastern Shroud.
    Peistes are... somewhere.
Raptors are in Eastern La Noscea (I'm noticing a trend here, always to the East...)
And that's as far as I've gotten.

At least it's probably not as expensive/farm intensive as weaving.
