The night elves are basically the benevolent version of drow, so there you go. They obviously don't live underground (but they like the night) and they don't worship a spider deity, but there are some other similarities, mainly the dark skin and the amazon vibe.
    Look! Words!

    I'm gonna cry now.
The Drow are the Nightelves......you never visit R.A. Salvatores page? He commented on the wow Night Elves that they kinda copied his Drow Lore. Of course Night Elves are not as evil......and got that same style after all. ;>

If it's not an elf, put it back on the shelf!
I want the guy who said this in here!

just kidding, I do LOVE the San'layn Elves tho. Their lore with the Blood queen vampiric race seems to be pretty cool!

Also Queen Azshara seems like a really interesting elf.

    Ok...

Not a lot of variety there.

    Drow = Night Elf
    Sea Elf = Naga
    High Elf = High Elf

And we don't need Snow Elves. We got something better then Snow Elves. We got the Vrykul, a much better snow/frost race.

There were only about five of them, and we killed them all.

They also cant fight worth a shit.

Which really differentiates them from sadistic underground-living rape machines I guess...

Make light skinned/haired Blood Elf. Live in snowy region, congrats you have your snow elf. Who's probably also cold and mad at you for it.

Am I the only one that didn't even give a crap about elves until WoW? Even took me a while to discover that I liked them there. Though elves in other media still don't interest me all that much, they're just not WoW's elves.

Both Night Elves and Blood Elves had a stronger racial identity in WarCraft III.

Night Elves basically acted like Wood/Sylvian Elves by being savage, wild, untamed, and attuned with nature. And looked like Drow or Dark Elves. Giving WarCraft both archetypes.

Blood Elves were basically like Dark Elves, being sinister, vengeful, hateful, and using forbidden magics. Yet they looked like High Elves (mostly)

In my opinion, WC3 had a more interesting interpretation of these two races. Because in WoW, Night Elves are basically nature elves and Blood Elves are magic elves. And there are very little differences between them other than that at this point.

Oh really? I thought it were the orcs that started giving lessons to Forsaken about suicide rushes.

Also, Night Elves needed their lamp-chinned overlord to save them because their idiotic leader turned herself into arrow-beacon midfight.
