Do not insult our inttelegence on the matter of somehow not knowing what the tea party stands for. As a guy who fancies himself as a socialist it isn't a mystery why I think the tea party can jump off a cliff, compounded now thanks to recent events. As long as shit stains like ted Cruz call themselves tea party "patriots" they can go suck lemons for all I care. They are a blight on our political system and BOTH sides know this.
Actions speak louder than words. The constant threat of shutdowns / actual shutdown and the close call constant default risk are their creation to press leverage.
People "hate" the tea party for what they do moreso than what they stand for. And what they've done is caused constant economic uncertainty that economists estimate has costed us nearly 1M jobs over the last 4 year.
The Tea Party is just the latest incarnation of far-right populism in this country. 50 years ago they were the John Birch society (founded in part by Fred Koch, father of those Kochs). 150 years ago they started the Civil War, then founded the original KKK. Its the same impulses and rhetoric every time (State's rights, demands that everyone else gives in to their desires, demonization of foreigners, discussions of "true Americans", etc.) The only thing new about the Tea Party is the name.
Libertarians ran as a third party, Ron Paul is fucking their chances by pretending libertarians are republican. Rand also no calls him self a libertarian, he ran away from the tea party to help his dad fuck actual libertarians.
All the crap you listed is not reflected in their voting. It just makes you feel better to pretend their different...

That's why people think the tea party is what it is. Folks like you are just confirming it...

Again, showing the reason why people think the way they do about the tea party. Because proponents of the tea party, say the shit that you do. It's like in another thread a dude was trying to call freaking Bloomberg a democrat. There is this disconnect with reality that tea baggers seem to share...

If the tea party was actually about smaller government, I would be fine with them. But, they are more for pushing corporatism (in the guise of free markets), and getting a republican back in office. The majority of tea party members are in favor of banning gay marriage, that makes them big-government conservatives. Even worse, a large percentage of those in the tea party who opposed legalizing gay marriage, understand that it is direct contradiction with the 14th Amendment. That means that they also really don't give a damn about the U.S. Constitution. Then you also have to take in the correlation between the Birther movement and the tea party. The only logical explanations for Birtherism, is willful ignorance, or flat out racism. Not all tea party members are racists, but there are enough so that it becomes a problem. I was at the major DC rally in 2009, and racism was rampant.
As far as the shutdown is concerned, the GOP has to own the majority of the responsibility. It was the direct plan of many of them, and they included legislation to ensure that it stayed shut down. Instead of beinf fiscally responsible, and actually trying to get budget cuts (which Boehner and Reid had already agreed upon $70 billion in cuts), they opted to shut down the government in order to use the ACA as ransom. The shutdown lies almost entirely on the shoulders of the tea party, and now, they have nothing to show for it. Oh wait, we have a bloated budget, because they didn't actually focus on what they've been ranting about for years now.
This thread is going places. Let's count the references to tea bagging (Democrat's favorite pasttime based on the number of references to it I see) and have a drink for every time it's used.
At this point Two parties may not be feasible anymore. No longer.
