    Question about MMO Champion

    Hello,

I registered an MMO Champion account in 2011. I registered a new account today to expose my questionings.
I've been using the same gmail address since gmail exist. I like gmail because you can twist your email with dots.

    For example :

    email[A]gmail.com
    e.mail[A]gmail.com
    e.m.ail[A]gmail.com
    emai.l[A]gmail.com

Now, the only place I ever registered using the formula «emai.l[A]gmail.com» is MMO-Champion. It's been a while I'm even not playing WoW anymore, yet I still receive thousands of emails everyday about WoW, GW2, Diablo 3 (and so on) addressed to «emai.l[A]gmail.com» asking to get my password because my account is going to get banned and blablabla.

So, here is my question : I am too lazy to read curse privacy policy, is MMO Champion selling my email to spammers?

So you get spam and think it's from MMO-Champion or the email you're getting spammed from is @mmo-champion?

Sorry, my english might be bad. I receive spam and think email was relayed by MMO-Champion.

    Here's an example :

Gmail does not recognize dots. All those examples you have given will all go to the same inbox. It's not uncommon for spammers to send spam to variations of an email address by adding dots to them.

    https://support.google.com/mail/answer/10313?hl=en:
Sometimes you may receive a message sent to an address that looks like yours but has a different number or arrangement of periods. While we know it might be unnerving if you think someone else's mail is being routed to your account, don't worry: both of these addresses are yours.

Gmail doesn't recognize dots as characters within usernames, you can add or remove the dots from a Gmail address without changing the actual destination address; they'll all go to your inbox, and only yours. In short:

    homerjsimpson@gmail.com = hom.er.j.sim.ps.on@gmail.com
    homerjsimpson@gmail.com = HOMERJSIMPSON@gmail.com
    homerjsimpson@gmail.com = Homer.J.Simpson@gmail.com
All these addresses belong to the same person. You can see this if you try to sign in with your username, but adding or removing a dot from it. You'll still go to your account.

Also I want to point out that it's just a coincidence that you're getting WoW/D3 related emails. When you think about it, we all get a lot of spam not related to anything we're interested in. Besides the usual viagra ads, I frequently get tampon, breast cancer, and straight hookup/dating site spam...even though I am neither straight, nor a woman. It's only when it matches something we're interested in that we suddenly think we're being targeted when it's just coincidence.
