It is the same game nothing else has changed yet this is the defining moment for you in the game? I find it hilarious that people are this petty and trivial. I mean honestly rather than give piss poor comparisons, please explain how new models will change how the game plays, and how the average player will want to comeback for more than a few days.

You want to talk about mind numbing all I see from those advocating it is "it will be game changing" not a one of you has explained how.

That and I also wonder where you guys get this "power gamer" bullshit. You don't have to be a hardcore gamer to want a focus on gameplay that will keep you playing rather than not addressing the real problem and adding new models. I don't raid at all, don't seriously PVP at all, and still think new models are a joke.
maybe because people like nice things? Fuck, if I'm playing this games for hours a day, I would prefer to have something nice to look at. What's so hard to understand?
Just check pool score, it's obvous it wil have huge impact on players, maybe not on closed minded hardcore players but definitely on army of casuals.

I am looking forward to it but it won't really affect how I play much except that I may make new alts if there are races that look really good.

People must spend a lot of time staring at their character. In normal gameplay, if you are paying attention to your character, you are probably not paying attention to what you should be. I just can't imagine this is going to change that much for that many people. Isn't the gameplay more important than a minor graphical upgrade?

So how will this impact you personally? Are you looking forward to it? Will it make you lose your bond with your character and quit? Or perhaps you plan to resubscribe if the models get updated to suit the times?
I don't see my character as it is, he's covered in gear.

Although, on a more personal note, I can reroll a few female classes and save time from searching porn on the internet. I'll just have to get them all to level 18 first though, I mean c'mon, I'm not some kind of gross weirdo.

While crude compared to something from today's model fidelity, it was the first time whimsical "style" was infused into an MMO's graphics at all and it was amazing to see realized with a full sized seamless world of interesting and whimsical scenery, it was a dream come true in so many ways back then I don't think it can be matched beyond a total paradigm shift in gaming.
    I like you.

99% of my screenshot folder is from me flying along to do a quest or go find this or whatever and going "holy shit that looks awesome" or "Wow that's actually beautiful" print screen and randomly checking/exploring stuff, I think people forget the designers add a lot of stuff you aren't put on a linear path to discover, you need to go find it yourself - Lorewalkers are a great example, I love storytime, what an awesome way to tell lore in-game, but it takes around 20 mins to get exalted which was disappointing, I hope they expand on this in the next xpac.

I disagree with people's argument of WoWs engine being old and tired, sure technically it is, but seriously, MoP has amazing visuals, that when you really take the time to look, DO stand up in todays gaming world, also the music, MoP's music is possibly the best of any expansion imo.

On topic, I can't wait for the update, but it will get over hyped and people will be disappointed, if they can pull it off so you can change between old and new models for your own characters, not npcs, you'll have to live with that, perfect, job's a good'n.

Some people pay money for sculptures and models. They put them all over their shelves. They get pleasure just looking at the form and shape and character and personality in an artistic creation. WOW's models are digital sculpture, and they are now at he point where using minimalist style they aren't just approximations or place holders your imagination has to realize in further detail.

These aren't just blocks with names over them, they are art. Maybe you have to care about art to understand, but being able to control a cartoon puppet is fun for a lot of people. A virtual world that looks like a real time living Pixar movie is attractive to many people, as is exploring it, as is watching your character interact with that world.

Making this into the straw man issue of GAMEPLAY vs GRAPHICS is a false dilemma/false dichotomy. The choice is not necessary. You can appreciate and love both. One does not impact the other. The gameplay and balance is handled by people who specialize in programming and conceptualizing, the art is handled by artists and animators.

You're just a pretentious and elitist snob when you dismiss people who appreciate visual stimulation as shallow and superficial while elevating your supposed appreciation for gameplay as the only thing that matters. The game will constantly always be in a state or rebalance and tweaking, you act as if there is some goal of balance that is being sacrificed because Blizzard spends a lot of money on their artists and cares about the visuals of their game, when in fact the issues are not related.

It stimulates my imagination, delights me, and inspires me to look at the Goblins and Worgen and Pandaren come to life with their animations and their model quality. Imagining my favorite races in the lore with the same personality and animation and model quality is beyond a dream come true.

I assume this is aimed at me though you never quoted or indicated who it was aimed at. My first question is how exactly am I an elitist snob? I have not once indicated I feel I am better than any of you at any time. Really your calling me pretentious after that pile of shit you just typed out, really? I simply stated my feelings that I feel the entire dev team should be working on new material focused around something concrete rather than prettying up something that doesn't really adds nothing needed.

While you are correct the visual art team creates the new models, they could be creating something else. You seem to enjoy ignoring logical statements like that and dismissing them. Perhaps if you stopped trying to sound eloquent and actually answered my question rather than being insulting to me we might come to a understanding. Of course you will continue not to do so, and you will continue to regurgitate the same bullshit you have already. The original question posed was "How will player models affect you personally?". I gave my personal opinion on how it will affect me and then simply asked how one poster felt it would cause him to resub. Still, not seeing how this makes me elitist.

Why do people want new models? I honestly don't get it.

The old models are perfectly fine.
@Ghostcrawler:Some advice: [My pet issue] is why there were sub losses is one of the weaker arguments players use. Players don't have that data.

My thoughts exactly. I don't see why so many think it will change how they play the game.

If I was not subbed new models would not bring me back because I am smart enough to realize it would be the same game I quit before the model updates.
Seems very vain to play games just for the graphical quality. Yet a lot of people do it. They're the guys who upgrade to the new CoD every year like how some guys used to upgrade cars each year.

I have explained it to you time and time again, but it seems you don't read the replies. Read my previous post in this thread please. (it's on this page)

Because we're not living in the past, just like how you want gameplay advancement, we also want asthetic advancements.

and no, they are not "fine" they were 9 years ago, and even then, "fine" shouldn't be the bar for a company such as blizzard.

I was actually generalizing, hence me not quoting you. It's a very common issue and a you see it referenced anytime people talk about improving graphics. You're actually one of the more hostile and covert manipulative people I've seen take up the banner and it's really just kind of perplexing why you're so unable to understand things beyond your own opinions, all the while slipping in your little defensive jabs and feigning hurt feelings over insults while tossing out insults at the same time.

For many people the atmosphere of this game is just as important as gameplay, and the nostalgia factor is a huge part of what brings back older players. Breathing new life into the atmosphere with something like modernized models for the classical and iconic races of Warcraft's lore is a major way to re experience the atmosphere people found so nostalgic.

If you honestly don't see a major difference between newer models like goblins and pandaren compared to dwarves and orcs there's no point in trying to explain it to you. Those recent models ooze personality and seem like living animated characters from a Pixar movie, the original models look like neat origami sculptures made of folded boxes of paper. The fans of the original races would like to see those races given the personality and life you see in the new models, instead of just being cool paper dolls made of boxes with faces drawn on the boxes.

And someone called this vanity right here on this page of the discussion. Again it's just hilarious again how ironic it is the way so many gameplay champions dismiss others as vain and shallow and superficial for having fun from something they don't find fun.

You see the same attitudes with people who don't understand why people read the quest text or leave the ingame music playing or care about the lore. Blizzard puts astronomical effort into the atmosphere of their games, some people appreciate it, some people don't.

I am looking forward to seeing my magnificent beard animated rather than stuck on my chest.
    Looking marvelous in velvet.
