I'm putting my first computer! It's been a very fun learning experience.
I've decided to run my selections thru you guys before I go forward with things.
What I want this for (mostly MMOs, as you can tell, but casual for all cept for WoW):
WoW: steady 60 fps in a 25-man raid during hero phase on medium settings
Star Trek Online
SW:TOR
RIFT
LOTRO
Possibly DotA2, Heroes of the Storm
What I'm looking at:
Core i5 4760
Gigabyte H87N WIFI ITX (to fit into a Bitfenix Prodigy; yes, I do want the WIFI capability; nope, not gonna OC or SLI)
2x8Gb RAM, G.SKILL Ripjaws 2133MHz
240-256Gb worth of SSD, 500Gb worth of HDD, 16 or 32 Mbps (recommend any decent, cost-effective brands for these?)
GTX 670 or 760 4Gb GDDR5 (haven't decided on brand yet, opinions?)
620-625W semi-modular PSU, according to my calculations; also deciding on a brand, probably want bronze or nowt, cable management not priority
Win7 Home
Resolution: not decided yet, please weigh in!
Peripherals: not fussy, only need some opinions on what monitors to use; nothing too huge, 17-20" should do I suppose.
Estimated total cost: about USD$1250 (I'm bad at guesstimation tbqh)
Massive thanks to everyone for their opinions, and to everyone who's stickies I've read. You have all been a great help.
Where brands are a concern, I'll generally want to choose between quality and price (probably not appearances), so just hit me with your opinions.
Thanks for the advice. By the week's end I eventually ended up changing a fair number of my selections, mostly because I found people who have dealer connections so I can access stuff at sub-retail prices.
As of right now the only question I have is regarding what Philips monitor I want (sticking to this brand because of dealer connections). I have been looking at their online catalog, but it doesn't help that they don't list prices. I'll check elsewhere and see if I can find comparisons...
