I still think actor Chris Hemsworth (Thor) should be playing Arthas. He looks the part, and I wouldn't mind the eye candy.

I love Blizzard but I honestly think the WoW movie will be a critical flop, big time.

I'm unsure on profitability, a lot of people will go and see it just because it's WoW, but at the same time it will get critically panned and have the stigma of WoW and failed video game movies attached that might affect the viewer numbers leading to both a critical and financial bomb.

Also this actor sucks, my opinion.

Edit: If this was a three or four years ago, I think it would be a different story, at least on the profit side, I'd imagine critics would still be the same.

Also I know he hasn't even been announced.

But any guesses on who Sean Bean will play?

    I say Terenas!
Everyone knows Sean will be Uther

The best decision they could have ever made. It is the last piece of lore that isn't completely screwed over.

That said, there's been rumblings that this film will focus on the early wars and not the Menethil family. The reason people going hogshit over the Vikings guy as Arthas is because Gamebreaker TV's typical level of handwaving ever since recruiting Olivia Grace.

His evil is legend. Lord of the undead Scourge, wielder of the runeblade Frostmourne, and enemy of the free peoples of Azeroth. The Lich King is an entity of incalculable power and unparalleled malice - his icy soul utterly consumed by his plans to destroy all life on the World of Warcraft. But it was not always so. Long before his soul was fused with that of the orc shaman Ner'zhul, the Lich King was Arthas Menethil, crown prince of Lordaeron and faithful paladin of the Silver Hand. When a plague of undeath threatened all that he loved, Arthas was driven to pursue an ill-fated quest for a runeblade powerful enough to save his homeland. Yet the object of his search would exact a heavy price from its new master, beginning a horrifying descent into damnation. Arthas's path would lead him through the arctic northern wastes toward the Frozen Throne, where he would face, at long last, the darkest of destinies."

Seems like it could very well be an Arthas movie. Which I'm excited about, to be honest.

The story of Arthas Menethil is absolutely incredible, and a lot of people are missing out on it because they aren't gamers. Make a movie, even better, make a trilogy, depicting Arthas from WC3 to his demise in WotLK. It would be fucking amazing.

Imagine this in full theatrical glory, gives me shivers:

why do people keep making up bullshit like this?

blizzard has released NOTHING about the storyline of the movie yet, the only thing we have to go on is leaks which all claim it will be about the last guardian and its very unlikely it will be about anything from warcraft 3 onwards because shoving all that information on a casual audience will make the movie only appeal to hardcore warcraft fans

do you REALLY think metzen would give details about the film less than 2 week before blizzcon?

Making an Arthas movie is probably the only way the movie can be remotely succesfull.

Oh, I never claimed that site to be a reputable source. I was just saying that it's not impossible for it to be a movie about Arthas, and I believe that Blizzard would be wise to make it so.

no making an arthas movie is probably the way to make the movie fail.

they arent making this movie for YOU they are making this movie to be a successful movie, they arent going after warcraft fans, that would be a HUGE waste of time.

you dont start out at the avengers, you build the world up slowly.

forcing the audience to sit through a long arse line of text ala star wars would be ridiculous in this day and age.

Indeed, it would heighten the chances of success greatly. The Arthas story is something you can condense down into a few movies and have any epic fantasy loving person watch and go "I get this!". It would be harder to pull off with a story revolving around the events of the first few games.

Which is exactly why you do the Arthas story, and not a first or second war movie.

The Arthas story people can understand directly coming in from an outside point of view.

how? how do they explain the fall of stormwind, the enslavement of the orcs, the rebellion of the orcs, illidan being released, the battle for mt hyjal, the story of lordaeron and the scourge invasion, the story of thrall, the story of kael'thas and the blood elves, who the hell medivh is, and all the other plotlines of warcraft 3 into one movie?

you cant just do a "arthas movie" and focus only on arthas it doesnt work if you want to do more than one movie.

this isnt some huge lord of the rings budget movie.

like i said you dont start at the avengers. you start with iron man.

Those are all things that can be explained in time, to start with there needs to be something big and flashy that catches the attention of those who don't already know the story.

All those things you listed are impossible to explain as a prelude, but it would be just as difficult to do with the first war. What about all the things that lead up to that? The corruption of the Orcs by the legion, the arrival of the Draenei on Draenor... If you want to make a truly full explanation of the Warcraft universe in movie format, you would have to begin with the shaping of Azeroth by the titans. Which is hard to do. So you start with something smaller and introduce the other puzzle pieces over time.

You don't start with the Avengers, you start with Iron man. I agree. You don't start with the fall of the Lich King. You start with Arthas where we first encountered him, as a young man with promising abilities on his way to become a full fledged Paladin. The entire story of Arthas is too much to be crammed down into one movie, make it a trilogy. And then you flesh out with the wars that have happened before and after the fall of the Lich King, when you have caught the attention of the public.

Following Arthas's story would allow the movie to introduce a lot of WoW races:

    - Humans (obviously...)
    - Orcs (they were a threat in Lordaeron when Arthas was a child, and as an adult he had to fight some of them aswell)
    - Dwarves (Muradin and plenty of other dwarves hang out in Lordaeron)
    - Gnomes (MAYBE, they didn't appear in WC3 or the Arthas book, but were still part of the Alliance and could easily make an appearance)
    - Night elves (Arthas had to go to Kalimdor for a while with Archimonde, and encountered Illidan in the process. Night elves could easily be given a role during his stay in Kalimdor)
    - Worgen (He could encounter some in Silverpine, because in the book Arthas had to escort Jaine troughout Silverpine on their way to Dalaran)
    - Undead (They'd be the second major faction to appear outside the humans, obviously)
    - Troll (They could be seen fighting alongside the orcs against the humans, or Arthas could accidently encounter some of Thralls trolls)
    - Goblin (They are mercenaries, can pretty much be seen everywhere)
    - Blood elves (Duh.... Arthas raiding Quel'Thalas pretty much)

So the only factions that could not make an appearance are tauren, draenei and pandaren. Then again they could always make cameo appearances

I would love a Lich King based movie. The lore behind Arthas is amazing. Its problematic tho, since the whole "Good guy turns evil"-theme has been seen countless of times before.

Am I the only one who laughs at the fact that Sean Bean plays another dying character?

Just sayin'.... but his deaths.... so good!

I agree, maybe even it's about time to make a subforum about it, even this site is about games but it deserve it's own section as this site is mostly about WoW, even with not wow realted name... plus lots of people here waiting and want to follow for it.. in before a big infromation for it at blizzcon

There seems to be a lot of confusion, about what the movie will be about, and why not, blizzard is very hush about this, I imagine that we'll get more info at blizzcon. Either way filming starts in january, so it will be hard to hide it then. Currently if you look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warcraft_%28film%29 you'll see that the plot seems to have shifted back to warcraft 1 storyline. There was a site reporting that they had clues that showed the movie would be based on the book http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warcraf..._Last_Guardian. Here is that link: http://www.bleedingcool.com/2013/07/...warcraft-film/

I'm not saying its true, I'm just posting this to point out that getting your hopes up about arthas might not be a good idea. Also to the people saying it has to be arthas to be good, that is just illogical. There are so many different storylines that could be amazing. I for one would love a movie about illidan and the stormrage brothers.

Regardless of storyline this movie is being made by legendary films. Just recently I have watched 2 movies by this company, man of steel and pacific rim. They are also responsible for movies like 300, the watchmen, and the dark knight series. These guys can do special effects. You're probably going to be impressed.
