It's a new type of instance, "Timewalker" we're guessing. Should mean facerolling your way through it at high levels won't be impacted.
Being able to scale down and run instances with new people, alts or friends in order to teach them how to play rather than "stand back bro *chain lightning/howling blast*" and reduced XP could foster/promote better play overall.
Interested to see how DKs will be scaled seeing as they never had the option of sub-60 dungeons.
Assuming this is also added on to old raids we'd also have a massive amount of content opened up to people who never had the opportunity to experience them at the appropriate level... Sure, you and I may have seen everything since Classic while it was relevant but that doesn't mean everyone else has. It's difficult to appreciate the epic feeling of something when you can 1-shot it.
Everything I've posted above is all well and good, however there will need to be some sort of incentive. Weekly/daily timewalker raid/dungeon challenges which could award items or a long-old timewalker rep grind which unlocks certain rewards along the way.
Can it be fun? Potentially.
Is it useful? Sure.
With the tech in place, does it take too much time to apply to the game? Not really.
So why complain about an addition? It's plus, wasn't there before. Chill out people. Besides who knows, they can add titles and vanity items, it could be really fun yet completely unnecessary to progress like pet battles.
Yeah, this is exactly how I'm looking at it. I highly doubt they are going to skip making all new stuff and just run with this. This can't hurt anything, it's just extra if you want it.
They effectively add like 100 dungeons to the random pool, dungeons most of us haven't even seen in years. How many people enjoyed running Jade Temple and Brewery over and over from 85-87? And then the other 2 until 90? Not me. If I can scale my character and run random dungeons from RFC all the way up to the new 90-100 dungeons.... yeah.... HUGE improvement.
Then look at it like how people tank a lot in lower level queues. There are times I was queueing Tank/DPS leveling my monk and I'd get dps. If max level dps can now downscale to those dungeons and get put into those pools... huge convenience for everyone.
You understand that they've nerfed dungeon quest experience, right? They reward about as much xp as a regular quest for your level, they're not metric tons of xp like they use to. The travel time is easily ignored too, considering that most quest hubs are very close together now and the amount of xp you would have been able to grind out in the same slot of time would be compensated for by the first quest turn in, and considering most hubs have a bread crumbs quest you're immediately compensated upon arrival.
I am well aware. The truth is, however, that it doesn't take particularly many mob kills to equal the experience gain of one quest and a good group mows down mobs in pretty much zero seconds. Travel time can under no circumstances be ignored, especially since most breadcrumb quests award extremely little experience; definitely nowhere near enough to compensate for travel time.
Allowing your max leveled friends to queue with your low level toon.
No special gains if you complete said dungeon while scaled down. You see level (x) loot, for the dungeon.
Hopes and Dreams for ilvl scaling old dungeons:
Tune up mob damage/hp
Objectives in said dungeons.
Complete in X amount of time, you receive special snowflake item.
Now that I am reading others suggestions, that would be pretty cool to have a random queue, queuing us for every single 5 man dungeon out there. Haha, how exciting. I'm getting excited right now and it hasn't even happened yet.
Im pretty sure blizzard already stated that they want scaling in the game but they don't want it to change for people who want to blow through old content for transmog. So, more then likely this will be an option you can turn off and on. And that's just fine. Options are always good!
If I had to guess, soloing will be just like it is now. You mount up, go to the dungeon (or maybe raid fingers crossed), walk in and do your thing. The only point to the scaling is to do it in some sort of group that I imagine you would queue for just like you do now for scenarios, dungeons and flex. And there you are: both things together and it allows for pre-made groups of friends just like now.
