Do you like the idea of downscaling?

Do you *like* the idea of downscaling gear / character levels, as seen in the recent videos? That'd probably be one of the key additions to the game in the next expansion, so... are you actually looking forward to it?

    Example pros / cons:

Pro: downscaling will add challenge to leveling dungeons and non-max-level raids, that's great, instead of only having ~10 5-mans at max level, we'll have 50, more variety, etc.

Con: don't believe they can tune leveling dungeons and raids all that well, after all leveling dungeons are stupidly easy if they are done at appropriate levels right now, plus we saw all these dungeons and raids already.

    Add your own, obviously.

Yes, very much so. I would absolutely love being able to scale down to lvl 70, grab some people, and knock out some raids. I can see old-school raiding guilds getting a huge boost in players.

Plus, it would be awesome if they added a feature like Rift has, where you can check something like "I'm willing to mentor." on the LFG frame, which would allow you to run any level of instance for, say, your heroic queues. I would be running 5-mans all day long.

It would also be nice to be able to scale down to the level of a zone (not automatically, but by choice) that you might not have finished, or even done at all, while leveling. Sure, you can go through and 1-shot everything as a 90 now, but it's rather boring (and can actually be a bit annoying for some quests).

Biggest "con" might be, as you said, poor balancing; but really, it couldn't end up much worse than having full heirlooms on a properly leveled toon.

All in all, as long as all the scaling is purely optional and by choice, I don't see it being bad at all. More options = better. (Within reason, of course)

It will be awesome to raid with 25 people the sunwell with the 70lvl gear/spell stats. People will have to start reading again old bosses stategy guides etc.

why stop at just raids? why not go with the GW2 approach of downscaling to the zone you are in.

why just make all the raid content relevant to everyone? why not make ALL content relevant to everyone?
When challenging a Kzin, a simple scream of rage is sufficient. You scream and you leap.

The volume of new game features and content in MoP is a direct consequence of people cancelling subscriptions during Cataclysm. You're welcome.

Best idea for a long time.

    Imagine amount of content:
Dungeons: Vanilla Blackfathom Deeps · Dire Maul · Maraudon · Ragefire Chasm · Razorfen (Razorfen Kraul · Razorfen Downs)· Wailing Caverns · Zul'Farrak
Blackrock Mountain (Blackrock Depths · Blackrock Spire) · Deadmines · Gnomeregan · Scarlet Monastery (Scarlet Halls · Monastery) · Scholomance · Shadowfang Keep · Stormwind Stockade · Stratholme · Temple of Atal'Hakkar (Sunken Temple) · Uldaman

BCCaverns of Time (Escape from Durnholde Keep · Opening the Dark Portal) Magisters' Terrace, Auchindoun (Auchenai Crypts · Mana-Tombs · Sethekk Halls · Shadow Labyrinth) Coilfang Reservoir (Slave Pens · Underbog · Steamvault ) Hellfire Citadel (Hellfire Ramparts · Blood Furnace · Shattered Halls) Tempest Keep (Mechanar · Botanica · Arcatraz)

Wotlk Caverns of Time (Culling of Stratholme) Azjol-Nerub (Azjol-Nerub · Ahn'kahet: The Old Kingdom) Crusaders' Coliseum (Trial of the Champion) · Drak'Tharon Keep · Gundrak · Icecrown Citadel (The Forge of Souls · Pit of Saron · Halls of Reflection) Nexus (The Nexus · Oculus ) · Ulduar (Halls of Stone · Halls of Lightning) · Utgarde (Utgarde Keep · Utgarde Pinnacle) Violet Hold

[I]Cata[I]Caverns of Time (End Time · Well of Eternity · Hour of Twilight) · Uldum (Lost City of the Tol'vir · Halls of Origination) Blackrock Mountain (Blackrock Caverns) · Grim Batol · Zul'Aman · Zul'Gurub, Abyssal Maw (Throne of the Tides) · Deepholm (Stonecore) Skywall (Vortex Pinnacle )

instead of 9 Dungeons in Mop
Challenge Modes for Old Dungeons? YES!
Old Raids? Hell yeah! (Appropriate rewards and weekly quest required)
I will be able to help my buddy without oneshoting everything around!

So Yeah , I'm looking forward downscaling.
And Yes you are right OP it's all about execution!

Here is the thing: people already do it. I have done it too, but, more importantly, I have friends who do this seriously, locking XP at the appropriate level, never using gear or even enchants / gems from the next expansions, etc.

You know what the biggest problem with these raids is (besides there being not a lot of people interested in this - that bit would likely be helped if they integrate downscaling into a raid finder somehow)? The bosses are *way* too easy, and not at all like what they were when they were actual content. First, because the bosses have been nerfed many times over. Second, because the spells and talents have been revamped several times as well, and every time all levels save for the last ones were made significantly more powerful than before. Both these things help in a way, in that right now you don't have to have 25 people to clear Sunwell Plateau, you can do with about 20. But the balancing is... they have to more or less redo it from scratch, if they want some semblance of challenge. Now, I don't doubt that they can redo it from scratch, that's probably much less work than making even a single raid, since we aren't talking about new textures and 3D scenes, but - will they actually go to these lengths?

I have played GW2 and I have to tell you, I don't like downscaling in the zones (upscaling somehow feels better). I thought I'd like it, but I didn't - going into a mid-level zone to farm some mats, the downscaling just felt like something artificial that was getting in the way. I mean, come on, I am going to a node, there are three wolves, I have been able to show that I can defeat three wolves a number of times already many levels ago, and I still have to do it every time... that isn't feeling right.

Other people might like downscaling, obviously, hence the poll, but I'd really caution you to try it first...

Can someone explain how recycling dungeons/raids isn't ok, but downscaling your level to do the same dungeon that didn't remotely change is? I really don't get you people at all.

I think it's awesome. I really hope they update the old 5 man content now & give us legit rewards for doing heroic old dungeons. They made some great adjustments to Scholo & Stratholme, let's hope they do the same for the other dungeons. An updated Heroic Blackfathom Deeps has me drooling.

Probably because this won't take time from doing new dungeons as redoing old content does. Once the system is in it should be done and take no more development time. Not 100% sure how it's going to work though.

I like this idea. If done correctly it will add even more stuff to do but I think it's important they make content like this 100% optional or people will hate it. As long as they do that I am looking forward to running some old school raids just for fun.

No, I dont want to go back and do the same old dungeons that Ive done for almost 10 years just because they are challenging again. Its boring when you run an alt through them to level them and it would suck on your main. I pay money for NEW content, not for a way to make existing content challenging again. I doubt many would want to go back and run Wailing Caverns for a 10,000th time just because its challenging again.

I HATE the idea of downscaling.
I play an RPG for a reason and for Blizzard to take away any character development at a whim is just idiotic.

If they make it optional, I will just not give a damn about that particular feature.

I'd like to see the ability to get "Herald of the Titans" on my main character using this feature (if they offer the ability to do so, of course). I started a new account in DS, and I didn't take the time to gear up/wait for other people to do it on my way to max level.

I would also like to see more titles available for doing old raids with downscaled gear. More achievements/mounts/titles/whatever would be cool to get people back into older raids. Especially with tools such as OQ/Openraid (and I'm expecting Blizz to add an xRealm people-finder like these tools in the xpac), it'd be a great way to relive some past experiences

As a side note, THIS thing would, I think, be a much necessary addition to the game. oQueue is more or less as important today as WeakAuras was back in its time, it should be a built-in feature.

The important thing about downscaling is it would allow you to play with friends or new players you have referred without having to roll a new alt and keep up with them every level of the way. For example, you should have the OPTION of going to STV and downscaling so that you can quest with your new player friend without just oneshotting everything in sight and killing their XP as a 90. Same for running low level dungeons.

I can't even count how many times I could have sorely used this feature to play with friends or new people I got to play the game over the years. This along with crossrealm grouping and raiding would have saved some of my BC friends from quitting for a long time at least. (Cross-realm Karazhan anyone?) I honestly think the next thing that is needed is cross-realm guild invites so I can join a friend's guild on a different server or vice-versa without having to move all of my characters ($$$). [I envision this as my character staying on his or her server normally, unless I'm in a cross-realm group, but have my friends' cross-realm guild tag and access to that guild's chat.]

The scenario I'm thinking of is most recently when I met a WoW-playing friend irl who played with her husband on a different server. They were mostly into the game for leveling, so my only option to play with them was roll a new alt on their server (disconnected from my main's server and resources and realm-based friends), catch up with them in levels, and then stay with them in levels to play together. There is tons of room for improvement here.

    Agree.
Not even mentioning that somehow downscaling and timetravel for that matter automatically is translated to rehash when I hear it and just isn't appealing.

I definetely won't do any downscaled content. I did it already countless times. I did every raid since BWL from its release, I did Karazhan (for example) for 2 years (damn badges) every f.cking week, I did Ulduar for 1.5 years, Dragon Soul for one year!... at end of every expansion it was boring as hell, why would I do it again for next 2/4/6/8 years? O.o There's not a single reason.

And no it's not funny to do downscaled 5-mans with friend's alts. It's waaaaaaay more effective if I jump maxlevel and just boost them 5 times same instance in same time as we will do it downscaled.

PS Ok I'll do downscaled content if Blizz add achievements there but just 1-2 times to get everything

I don't see the point to scaled dungeons if there is no new reward system alongside. Doing old raids/dungeons with reduced stats just for the sake of running them at a lower level and ilevel has no purpose in my opinion.

I'm guessing the main appeal here is to group with friends/guildies who may be lower level.

I would have loved this feature to be implemented about a month ago when my girlfriend started playing for the first time so I wouldn't have had to start another character. But, alas, I've got a second character now that I really don't want lol

I would LOVE to be able to actually fight old stuff, but there would need to be incentives to do so. Like gear that is up to par with endgame stuff
