    I think it's trying to communicate. What should we do?

    Think of plain, "unflavoured" ice cream. Vanilla. It's where it starts then you add flavours to make it different I guess. That's what I always thought at least

    Vanilla is plain and by itself, without fancy additions that are around now.

    vanilla;

    It's the original of something, like the original Ice Cream flavor.

    If you played WoW before January 16 2007(TBC release date) you played vanilla wow.

    Vanilla is in so much of what we eat, and comes in so many varying qualities, that I frankly find low quality vanilla (the vast majority of it) to no longer be an added flavor, but the base flavor upon which other things are built. It becomes flavorless in comparison. It's why I freak out over cookies with almond extract rather than vanilla, now - I can taste the difference and it makes my taste buds ecstatic. There's probably one type of vanilla flavor ice cream I like, and that's because they don't use weak ass cheap vanilla in bad quantities.

    Which leads me to agreeing with Amat. It's the simple flavor that you add other flavors to (toppings, whatever).

    Vanilla; the original icecream flavor, when people say vanilla they usually mean original.

    Example: vanilla CoD is the first call of duty, vanilla WoW is just before expansions.

    Because Vanilla implies "plain" or "normal", but specifically in this case, the original code names for various patches are flavours, and the code name for the original wow was "vanilla."

    Vanilla is considered the first flavor of ice cream wow pre expansion is the first wow hence vanilla wow. Now vanilla may not actually be the first but it is considered the first. Besides you need a name for the initial game, there re names for the expansions and you cant just call it wow because wow also includes the expansions.

    Because vanilla is considered a plain, basic flavor. It is NOT because it was the first ice cream flavor because that would be incredibly inaccurate. Vanilla was first introduced in the 1500s - nearly 2000 years AFTER the first ice cream desserts were made. The first were unflavored and/or flavored with fruit juices.

    People really need to learn some history here. Most really have no clue how old most things really are in this world. Ice cream goes back to some 400 years BC.
