They were basically trimming the fat, by removing some excess programs.

This is the first time I've actually heard of it! I'm surprised they didn't get sued for calling it igoogle.

Apparently you can still export your stuff to a replacement, like igHome or others suggested here.

Better than Widgets. (And sorry if I'm stating the obvious... but it's short for "application" which is a computer term that has been around for a long time; since 1985 in the shortened "App" incarnation, if I trust my sources; 1992 in the shortened form by another source.).
