    Can Blizzard even win?

They wanted to try something new and they gave us Mists of Pandaria.
People complained that it didn't feel like World of Warcraft.

They go back to the roots of Warcraft and give us an expansion with iconic lore characters with Warlords of Draenor.
People complain that it's the same old shit and it's lazy.

What could they possibly do that wouldn't either be something deeply rooted in Warcraft history or something entirely new?

WoD didn't feel "old" it felt cheap and made zero sense. MoP didn't fail, only the mostly immature people disliked it, giving gestures like "Kung Fu Panda" and "The Last Airbender". So far from what I've seen an Azshara expansion is the most wanted by far.

Maybe go back to the roots thematically, not literally? Instead of mood whiplashing us through MoP or digging up long-dead Orcs in WoD?

Mists of Pandaria was amazing. It was just little kids trying to over compensate for being kids who didn't like the panda stuff.
    Fan-made expansion concepts:

-World of Warcraft: War of the Legion
-World of Warcraft: Fury of N'Zoth
    -World of Warcraft: Bloodsail (WIP)

People are complaining because its 3 expansions in a row with orcs as the lead. Thats what the same is, you can have world of warcraft without it being world of orc-craft. We have a ton of other races to explore and deal with their issues, but nope, orcs again and again. Thats the samey stupid nonsense people are complaining about. If we went to old draenor to stop the legion (Im talking the entire expansion, not the last part of a raid) extremely few people would have complained. Everyone wanted the legion to be our enemies again since they are the main huge bad guys for the entire warcraft series.

Dont go "its just the same as tbc then" Not really, TBC was mostly about Illidan/Vashj/Kaelthas, the legion was there, but it was a side thing till the very end with sunwell, we weren't actively battling them till the very end of the expansion.

We've already been to the tomb of sargaras. We know those islands exist. We know shit is going down on those islands. Just let us go there and give us some pirates already. No more timetraveling, alternate universe bullshit.

Pirates, nagas and salty wenches. What can be better than that?

No one would be complaining if were humans for the last three expansions.

Where do you think Illidan acquired the SKull of Guldan. There were several missions where you played as Illidan and had naga help you get there. There is an old warcraft 2 cinematic as well that shows how the original gul'dan died. He opened the tomb and was ripped apart by demons.

Naturally, anyone who dislikes something that you like must just be immature.

Exactly. Pandaria was a great expansion, until a yearlong Siege. I even enjoyed dailies at the beginning, because it made it feel like there were tons of things to do.

WoW needed to fix two things from MoP going into WoD: 1) push flying back longer so people were on the ground more, which they did, and 2) not put crazy things behind rep walls, like high end wrist enchants...which they did. Then, consolidate the dailies into a Timeless Isle-like space, to account for it being all on the ground, and then...voila.

I think the problem with WoD is that those dailies didn't come out til Tanaan, and garrisons (and the shipyard, ugh, don't get me started on the shipyards) were flawed designs. If they had made a daily questing hub in Talador, maybe based out of old Shattrath, with some faction specific ones at Bladespire/Karabor, things would have felt much more alive, especially if people were congregating in the middle of the continent to do world dailies (Talador). That way, on launch, you would have 3 zones highly populated - Talador with the dailies, Nagrand with Highmaul and the post-100 grind stuff, including reps like Steamwheedle and orc waystones, and Gorgrond, with BRF and more post-100 grinds like the TP rep grind.

Instead, everyone just sat in their garrisons until last month.

Pandaria was a pretty good expac. That content drought for the second half of it put a massive taint on overall reception but if 5.4 was an 8-month long patch like originally intended (instead of 14-month one), it would have been amazing.

The only way Blizzard wins again is probably a complete management re-haul, and most likely we will see the lowest low before it gets better. Next expansion may be even worse then WoD. We will see.

Ahh. I thought he meant in the general sense. We have never been there in WoW, true, but it is a well established place in wow lore. More so than pandaria or even draenor or the emerald dream.

Focusing on one race in general is a bad decision. There are a dozen other races that have stories to be told and that's just the playable ones. Just because your theme is 'x race' doesn't mean it has to be all about them. Add in subplots and other storylines that don't necessarily have any involvement in the overall story of the expansion. They said they took Farahlon out because they didn't think it fit in with the theme, but the expansion might have been better if they had included whatever they had planned there, as well as the storylines that were cut in alpha/beta.

Building on that. A Link Between Worlds is a good example of a familliar world, reimagined with new mechanics, and not feeling like a remake or reboot.

But... but... but isn't the apexis "non-daily" daily the same, just like old dailies but better?

Problem is, it looks like Blizzard completely lost touch with most of their players.
Their players want to have cool legendary - they get shitty ring with no visuals, which they are not even in control with, and which is stupidly unfair to half of dps specs because of no 2min cooldowns.
Their players want class balance - instead they get situation even worse that MoP had, when lowest dps rank is 40+% away from the highest.
Their players wanted dailies to not be a "must" thing to do - instead they get no dailies at all.
Their players wanted highly customisable plot of land for their characters to play with - instead they get noncustomisable, boring garrisons with dumb facebook games inside.
Their players wanted a game to not be about orcs for the third time in a row - instead they get WoD.
Some of their players wanted to not fly, and others wanted to fly. Blizzard fucked both groups of players with their idiotic "you'll fly, but later, after you grind shit" pseudocompromise.
And so on, and so on, this list can go forever, sadly.
