How heavily guarded is your country/province/state's primary authority?

After reading some articles about the Obama family being the most heavily guarded in history and the security for state governors like Schwarzenagger, I wonder what it's like for other heads of state in your area.

How visible is your head of state? Does he/she have extremely tight security? How far do the protective services extend?

I also would like to hear from those of you who live in cities large enough to be small countries or states. How do the questions above apply to you?

My mayor smokes crack and hangs out with gang members. So I doubt much security.

I never paid attention, and never exactly cared. It's not like any politicians are doing right by the world :P

On the other hand, he's still alive, so maybe more than you think?

An entire gang of drug dealers surrounds him constantly, and you think he has no security? :P

Anyway, as for me: None. Nothing. Zip. Nada. Zilch.
Well; standard home security, possibly. You know; a burglary alarm. Other than that? A firewall and a virus scanner.

Haha, I didn't know what you were talking about till I saw you were from toronto. Surely the leader of a town that large has a pretty hefty team of bouncers?

Unfortunately after one of our prime ministers got throw paint at him, our ministers receive quite a bit of security. Before that, none whatsoever.

Anyone else have that Start Trek scene go through their heads after reading the title?

    Sir Robin, the Not-Quite-So-Brave-As-Sir-Lancelot.
Who had nearly fought the Dragon of Angnor.
Who had almost stood up to the vicious Chicken of Bristol.
And who had personally wet himself, at the Battle of Badon Hill.

Obama's kids are more guarded than most national leaders.

Well, our primary authority (president) is drunk 100% of time so I guess he is guarded just out of principle, so that he doesn't do stupid things

Pretty much this. In Denmark our minister had no security until some bloke decided that was too little. He threw red paint on the minister (who is now Secretary General of NATO)

Not protected at all I think. You could just walk up to their homes at nigth. But people here dont do that ^^

Obama's the most heavily guarded President in our nation's history (read that as you will). Then again we have a long and distinguished history of Presidential assassination attempts so...

As I recall, the UK PM has a fairly large close protection detail when he's out and about - they just happen to be a lot less conspicuous than our Secret Service. I actually met the UK Deputy PM at a theater launch a couple of months back, and he had 4 plain clothes guys with him and his family.

Most of ours just walk the street freely, without bodyguards or anything. People mostly leave them alone, since it's the respectful thing to do.
    Denmark is nice that way.
You can stumble into the queen in a store, though she do have some kind of escort, but they're not really hugging her. As in. They stand rather far away, just following wha happens.
