    Very true.

I remember when there were phases where I wasn't a social gamer. I would spend hours and hours playing jrpgs, platformers, rts, sim, every sort of game alone. It was a very pleasant experience in an unpleasant time.

I was in that mood not long ago.

I started to play old PS1 RPGs and realized: It's not me getting older, bored of gaming and so on. It's just that I dont care about the mainstream games anymore. I am not into multiplayer, shooters or sport games. That eliminates almost 90% of the games produced today. I am into RPGs with great stories and they got rare.

I am currently having a blast playing Legend of Dragoon. Afterwards I will play Alundra.

I'm still quite young, only 21 but I'm finding myself less interested in games as I get older. Games without a decent story/characters or exceptional gameplay don't appeal me in the slightest anymore. I can't play a call of duty campaign for longer than 15 minutes anymore, I didn't enjoy borderlands 2, etc. Lately, I've been more gravitating myself towards old school titles or games that appeal to me in that way. Most modern titles don't interest me enough. I can probably only count on a single hand this year, how many games have genuinely interested me enough to buy them.

One of the big reasons I guess is the rise of modern military shooter garbage, indie titles and DOTA clones everywhere. Lack of RTS games and a lack of old school shooters is really frustrating when you see these cookie cutter games making millions.

Minus enjoying BL2 with friends of mine, this is the largest factor. Cookie cutter games for the masses of people who hate to have their brain switch in the on position means more generic piles of "game" making more money than anything actually interesting. I fully understand and respect that can be a game genre and not everyone has to like what I do but damn if it isn't making most companies murder their interesting game ideas for easy money.

I'm only interested in games with a good story these days, or indepth character development. I do love social games as well but I absolute hate competitive games online; people ruin the experience for me everytime. Competitiveness is only fun with a group of friends I know, like on Halo as we never really take it seriously... just ends up being a King of the Hill Gravity Hammer Cricket match.

Love playing Borderlands 2 with friends especially. Character Development, a hilarious characters, mindless fun and co-op, all in one.

I kinda wish some game developers kept things simple, like Crash Bandicoot on the PS1, I can't find a game like it these days. (But then again, my answer here may be with the Wii U haha)

I'm also however very reliant on word of mouth advertisement as are my friends. We don't venture out to unknown game developers or unhyped games. Its a shame thinking about it but there are so many bad games out there now, we just don't want to throw away money. Otherwise, our interest in Games would still be what is used to be years ago.

Hell, I stopped playing WoW because in the end it boils down to the player that now play it. No communication, dire communities, no realm identities, it's a pretty boring game without it.

I'm only interested in very few games these days, sad thing is that most of my favorite franchises are running out of steam, and I'm too lazy to get into new games. These days games don't keep me playing as long as they used too

MMO's was the virus for me. After playing WoW for so long I just like going from MMO to MMO grinding levels (I sometimes enjoy grinding with OP skills more than questing, killing 5 dudes, then turning the quest in, fuck me right?). Before then I enjoyed playing single-player games over and over again, certain levels I'd replay 50 times because it was fun as hell, and continued to be fun forever. Now I'm just looking at the game being like, well, if i want to know the story i can just youtube it, or read the plot on WikiPedia, so what's the point of me shelling out 60+ bucks for Need for Call of Assassin's Duty 12 when it's the same gameplay and probably even the same story, but in a different setting. I'm enjoying AC:Black Flag on the PS4 though, it's all like OMG SHINY! And my trophy count is pretty low, so my grind for the next few months is to get those up, paid 60 dollars worth for these games, I might as well earn all it has to offer, + I'm an achievement whore, that don't help at all. Hurgh, can't wait for Destiny.

Also even though ES:O is going to be both PC and PS4, I'm probably going with the PC version, there's just some things that are far superior on the PC that cannot be done on the PS4; react faster, macros, less lag, more beautiful to look at, perform better, talk in guild chat easier, vent/mumble/ts/skype, alt-tabbing. Destiny though, glad that one is console only, for now.

Even the RPG games are getting boring and stale, it's my favorite genre and everything I see with the title RPG I'm interested in 100%, but they just seems to be falling flat. They are very far and few between and always like to use the same theme, wizard and warriors vs dragons. The ones that do pass just go unseen and unheard of, company falls under, and when people hear about it late and learn that the company that put it out is no longer in business, that just makes them go "well fuck that what's the point of buying it?" Gah, I can't wait for Dragon Age 3 and Fallout 4, only single-player RPGs I know of that are coming out in the near, and far future. Would love to learn of more coming out soon if anyone has any.

Yeah, people seem to take competitive games too seriously these days. You make a small mistake - and your teammates start raging for how you ruined their precious day, and the opponents laugh at you and call you "noob". So many elitists who think that everyone playing below 5% top players are shit. Fortunately I learnt how to mentally cope with this kind of people, they don't bother me any more. And, god, I never become frustrated after losing a game and never feel like mocking an opponent who has no clue how to play. After all, we all are there to have fun, with exception of a few top players who play professionally and earn their money by gaming.

Single player games, on the other game, ran out of steam for me. It seems to be more fun just to read a good book with a great story and deep characters than to run with a virtual dude in a game isolated from the real world.

I'm in the same boat. Games barely even interest anymore. Even after all the personal hype I put behind the new Pokemon game it got boring after for me two days. Games just aren't as fun as they used to be for me.

I got my first console when I was 6 yo, I'm currently 27 yo and still like games. My guess is that you're playing the wrong ones.

Definitely getting bored of the ideas developers keep recycling to keep players busy and active in a game. This shouldn't be the case except for MMO's. When your single player RPG starts to feel like a grind, regardless of whatever reasoning the quest dialogue gives you, then you need to find ways to change it and keep players entertained in addition to keeping them busy. Mini games, such as pet battles and swoop racing, are just one example of what players need to keep them inside the game world that the developers have spent so much time creating.

WoW had a great idea by incorporating Joust in Cata, but they made it too clumsy and unpleasant for gamers. It needed to be fun, fast, simple, and most of all - not required for the questline. SWTOR has some awesome opportunities in Nar Shadda that they failed to deliver. They should have put some simple credit games in the casino, and swoop racing in the star port.

Single Player RPG games need to remember to keep it simple and offer some changes that will alter the ending because of choices made in the beginning. Or they can be big and complex, with branches throughout the game. These could affect allies and resources and abilities that could change the development and experiences of the character throughout the game. But they need to be clear that the experience is changing based on those choices, and players will need to play through again to see different results.

I believe games like Portal do a great job of keeping multiple types of players entertained with a clever story and even more clever puzzles to solve. Then they offer players the ability to develop their own puzzles to keep the content going, long after the story has ended. I felt like both Portal games struck a great balance between the different audiences. If you know of any other games like this or Antichamber, please let me know.

people say its age, but I think its more exposure to games for so long. eventually its all variations on a theme, rather than new things.

The occasional game interests me, if its something new or innovative (usually indie devs not the big companies), but not often anymore.

I think we're approaching a point where games as we know them are going to change.. I think players want more choices and say in what they play which is why I think games like project spark are going to become more popular. Games that you can create and customize to your specific needs and that have more social media integration.

By the way, curious. How did this happen that grinding in MMO is now considered normal and, even, necessary? Is MMO commonly perceived as a lower-quality popcorn product?

I think it's MMOs that started this thread of recycling the old ideas again and again. In 90-s developers tried to be original in order to keep people interested in their games. But WoW-like games shown that people will also play the same boring content for years, should you offer them a few hard-to-get gear tiers. Pandaria went even further, offering dailies, quests that are made to be done many times over and over. And, what do you think, people are still playing, 10 million subscribers! So, maybe, this trend of producing the same crap for years is what people actually want after all.

You're just burned out on video games. You play games too much and too many and you are no longer as easily impressed. Remember 10 years ago how any piece of crap game was awesome ? Now...far from it. Seems that only games that get above 8/10 ratings are interesting to play these days. Everything else is not worth the plastic disk they are burned on.

I was 21 when I first played vanilla WoW in 2006. I'm now 28 and a different person, I don't want to sit around and play video games all day like I did in my hardcore days, although I still play very casually. So I can relate, it's more about the fact that we've just grown up and became adults, it's not the games fault.

Having all the time you want to play is probably a reason, enough to play yourself bored and also reflect about how boring they have become. And yea, not much happening in terms of big game launches for a while.
Like other people suggested find yourself additional hobbies. I have rarely time to play because of lots of irl stuff to do, I have no time to get bored on games... I can rarly play them at all. So I have no time playing the games I want and try games I want to try =)
So cut back on it for a while, noone will blame you =)
