    Dragon Age Ultimate Steam

    Hey,

So I decided i wanted to play this game again (on steam). Well i've been trying for the past hour or so, and this game just refuses to launch. I get to the launcher, hit play, the game splash appears and then it notifies me it has stopped working.

    Tried:
    Verifying
    Reinstalling
    update graphics drivers
    launch in compatibility
    launch directly from .exe
    update physx

I'm thinking this has something to do with windows 8, but compatibility mode doesn't work. If i set compatibility hitting "play" just causes the launcher to restart.

    System:
    Core i5-4670K
    Geforce GTX670
    8GB CL8 1600mhz DDR3
    Windows 8 64-bit

Googling just gives me about 4/5 posts, apparently not many people use Windows 8. I've tried everything suggested there, no luck.

Any suggestions? I dare not say, but at the moment i'm looking to be forced to c.rack a legally purchased game in order to get it running....

I've never had any issues with the game so the whole Windows 8 thing seems like the plausible thing to me. :/

I'm running it on win8 and had zero problems so far. So I doubt it's the OS.
Although I got it through Origin.

Hm, so maybe a steam DRM issue?

I've now also update .net and directx. My box of tricks has run out.

Dude, I have no idea. I did an entire playthrough of the game on Steam, with Windows 8, and I never had any issues.

So it's not steam or windows related. That helps me pinpoint the issue atleast.

Are you using Windows 8 "The Basic install" or the update 8.1?

8.1 has been reported to fix some gaming problems so if u haven't updated to 8.1 try that.

That could be the reason I have never seen Vram read like that.

    I will be clear tho I don't use Win8 I am still using WIn 7 ult 64bit.

On my laptop, exact same operating system it works just fine.
Only the gpu is so shitty it can't run the game properly.

    Core 2 Duo T6400
    HD 4330
    Windows 8 64bit Enterprise.

Maybe some registry entry is corrupted. Is there a way to completely clean the game off the system?

Fixed it, it was that damn proprietary bastard software called Physx.
For anyone finding it through google:

I went to control panel -> software and removed physx.
Installed the physx in the steamapps/common/Dragon age ultimate/redist

    Now it works.

Another issue i had was an older /documents/bioware/dragon age folder, i had to remove it.
