Solo ICC Gunship - can't seem to jump between ships

I'm on a horde mage and on the video's after clearing the adds, it appears you just run to the edge of your ship and jump right over.... However, when i try, i just fall for 5 seconds and end up back on my ship.

I can get to the opposition ship by running to the point where the two ships are very close, horde ship hovers above the ally ship, kill the caster who freezes cannons, but i can't get back that way, and have to just fall off the ledge, fall for 5 seconds, then it transports me back.

Doing it this way wastes too much time and ends up with my ship running out of health.

What am i missing?

You are missing the rocket pack before you start the gunship battle. talk to the other npcs

Get the jetpack (and equip it) from one of the npc's before the fight.

Talk with the goblin before the fight begins and equip the shirt that he will give you, then use the shirt to jump to the other ship....

Also, clear the adds that come out of the portal before you jump.
All 3 !!, even it it means waiting for the 3rd one for few secs.
They will dmg your boat more then the enemy gunship.
