Exactly, most of what makes a movie good isn't really up to the actors. If the movie is well made then the actors will perform well, if the movie is just bad at the production level then it's not like the actors can do much to save it other than giving their best with what they have.

De Niro as well IIRC? I've actually seen the porn Cameron Diaz was in, it was VERY softcore. As in, she was in a brief scene topless. Less skin than you see in a regular film career really.

    Still, they're the rare exceptions.

Ever notice how he gave Peter Cushing the line "the operation has been a complete success" in Star Wars? Watch Revenge of Frankenstein (er, I think it was Revenge anyway). The line is a direct quote!

often when you have big stars it can actually get in the way of the storytelling and fantasy of the movie

I have been down on the prospects of a Warcraft movie since I heard the announcement. But, seeing this type of cast has brought some hope for me. The last thing I wanted to see was some big name headlining this thing. I didn't want to see Ben Affleck stuffed into a Batman costume, if you know what I mean. Going with some lesser know actors will work out so much better in the long run IMO.

Ben Foster - I've only seen this guy in an episode of "My Name is Earl". But, I remember his character so well because of his incredible intensity.

Travis Fimmel - Don't know any of his work, but he looks like he will fit into the world.

Paula Patton - Not familiar with her. But I'm gonna guess Garona.

Toby Kebbell - I really enjoyed his character as a likeable villain in "The Sorcerer's Apprentice". This guy is great.

Rob Kazinsky - Warlow! I thought he played a decent character in True Blood. Looking forward to seeing more out of him with better writing and character development.

Dominic Cooper - I'm getting the Medivh vibe here too.

Sylvester Stallone starred, produced and directed both movies starring many of America's (and Europe's) who's who of action movie stars plus Jet Li. Everyone said there's no way in hell it could work with that many A-listers. Expendables 2 says otherwise. Thanks to Expandibles 2 we know Jean-Claude Van Damme makes an awesome villain.

Why would anyone be surprised at them casting an unknown to play an unknown superhero anyway?

Hell he's not even very popular in comics. The whole reason he's a founding member of the Avengers is that he hasn't been able to hold down a steady title of his own for decades!

People need to understand that having A-list actors would be a waste of budget money. The name of the movie itself is enough to draw people to it, they don't need insanely popular actors to place on movie posters for box office drawl. It's not like any of these actors are horrible or inexperienced. They know how big this movie is for their careers so you could bet they're going to put 100% into their performance. Not every movie needs Jenifer Laurence, Emma Watson, Benedict Cumberbatch, or any other internet circlejerk actor for it to be amazing.

If the type of person who thinks a movie will suck because the cast has names you don't recognize, then chances are your opinion on movies probably doesn't mean much.

If you think a star studded cast is what makes movies amazing, take a look at Expendables, Red, or the new Oceans movies. They're a certain type of movie, but far from anything considered Oscar contenders.

The Expendables was unwatchable. Not good on any level.

Which is a terribly shame with a cast like that. It could've at least been a fun silly movie, but nooooo...

That was his point, he said BEFORE LoTR, it's not impossible that he would have gotten another role to rocket him to stardom, but fact is, the Legolas role is what did it.

I think, in the case of Thor being comparatively unknown in both comics and movies, that you could basically be a sarcastic asshole and joke: if they didn't want Thor to keep being unknown why didn't they get somebody bigger - a la Robert Downey Jr. making a triumphant return in Iron Man? (Coincidentally, I kinda thought the first Thor movie was really bleh when I saw it on TV anyway, but it worked out well for the guys involved. Good for them.)

And, yeah. It was totally a marketing thing - in terms of draw and more straight-out promotion.

Me too--i have a feeling that it may have interfered with the script had that been the case. I cant wait to see them in character! ive never seen any of their films (well ive seen clash of the titans but it was a really long time ago) but if they were chosen for the parts, they must have had really good auditions! On the one hand id love to see a clip or trailer as soon as possible--but its got to be ready too and stuff--

That guy second from the right hand side.. Those huge brown eyes are so expressive :3

I recognized 3 of them but could only place 1 until I read where they were from. Ben Foster has been in a lot of movies that I've seen and I like him. Most people would remember Archangel from Xmen 3, but also Pandorum is another movie he was in. I didn't know until I looked him up that he was that gross homeless man in 30 days of night who brought the vampires to the town.

Toby Kebbell I only recognized from Wrath of the titans and he was the guy that was Poseidon's son that was kind of a stoner acting guy in a way.

Rob Krazinsky I recognized but couldn't place and was mad at myself for not realizing he was the main villain Warlow, of last season of true blood that was half vampire half fae and wanted Sookie to become the same as him and ended up being the salvation for all vampires from the internment camps they were in.

While yes, he has a lead role in all of those movies; Lord of the Rings came first; so Lord of the Rings was the first silver screen movie that established Orlando Bloom as an A-List actor.

This movie isn't going to suck because of casting... it is going to suck because the Warcraft universe is garbage. Insanely popular game franchise does not guarantee a quality movie. Most people aren't playing WoW because the writing or characters are amazing. The writing, the lore, and the characters in Warcraft are sub par. The minds behind Warcraft simply aren't capable of coming up with unique, truly memorable or compelling characters / plots: these aren't required to entertain a generation of mouth breathing neck beards.

    Travis Fimmel, hurrah

Also excited for Ben Foster... curious to see the role they will be playing.

Both Ben Foster and Dominic Cooper are great, I'm looking forward to it. And just because you haven't heard of the rest of them doesn't mean it won't be good. That is an absurd assumption. Like just because you are well known means you are a great actor and have never had a flop before?
