All these idiots calling him a terrorists...
He watched 60+ of his friends slaughtered during a peaceful protest, slaughtered by a government that believed they where chosen by god and as such infallible, like some sort south african white centric sect of mormon madness. He should have started with violence, the kind of zealotry he was facing was never going to bow down without it.

Its a shame that he had to watch that. BUT still, that doesnt make slaugthering a single child or woman right.

When you fight totalitarian states, you cannot be afraid to die. Its something you have to accept, no matter if you are a communist, nationalist or whatever.

Murdering civilians do not make you a good person, no matter what your cause is....

He was a terrorist. He ordered the deaths of civilians. That doesn't mean he wasn't also a freedom fighter. This whole western 'paint the nice black guy as non-violent because we can't deal with violent black people as heroes' thing is pretty telling in Mandela's case.

They were a peaceful organisation who kept getting violently shut up by the whites. The same whites who considered themselves more superior in every way compared to the blacks. They shot 60+ blacks in the back running for their lives, elder people, women, men, children. It's a regime that wouldn't simply go "well perhaps you're right, let's give you the option to vote etc.". Mandela was prepared to die, he said so himself in his trial. And tbh, if he wasn't an international known man he probably would have been executed, because blacks had been getting executed for less crimes. Does that make him a saint? No, he never wanted to be a saint either, but South Africa (and the entire world really) is what it is because of Nelson Mandela.

He spend over 50 years fighting for democracy and same rights for black AND whites. He spend nearly 30 years in a hard prison fighting for it. He achieved what no black man did before him before he was in prison and after eh was in prison. He changed the face of the world and it's still recent history.

Just saying he's a terrorist is mind boggling to me really. He might not be a Dalai Lama, but few people achieved what he achieved, especially in recent history.
