    Help Our Shadow Priest

    Good Morning Spriest community,

Could you have a look at our spriests, Krussidullan and Xénu. I know nothing about spriests so don't know if it's a gear issue or an ability issue. I'll link our Malkorok kill as it's a pretty straight forward fight.

    Sunday night Logs: http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/p...?s=4294&e=4606

    Krussi: http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/characte...ullan/advanced

    Xénu:http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/characte...%A9nu/advanced

Sha of Pride 25 man normal, last nights logs: http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/r...?s=6378&e=6806

Their dps is quite low, any ways to improve it?

    Thanks in advance

    hi

Maybe i am not a spriest specialist but i play one and i see he have few problems here.

For first spriest arent great in single target fights like this 2, he have problem with malkorok flex trinket(it is useless for single target fights).

For single target figths he should replace malkorok trinket with anything..atleast timeless island int trinket. same with his first ring. timeless isle ring can be better. ofcourse i am talking about 535 ilvl items.

For upgrades he should start with weapon and then trinkets. Only if he have much more valor start upgrading other items..but for now he should farm more valor and wait for new weapon or trinket or normal set part.

One more thing for his gear. he need legendary cloak fast.

My tip for spriest is work on your dot uptime(on Sha vampriric touch was below 40%.. when it should be near 95). Dont pick divine star as 6 tier talent when you didnt use it at all. Halo is best choice there.

He should read some guide for example from icy-veins.

Tell him to download addons from curse.com atleast Shadow Priest DoT Timer, HaloPro and Weak Auras and learn how to use them.

Ps: Sorry for my bad english i hope it will help you a little
Ps2: Dot uptime one more time!!

    DoT uptime
Why is he using divine star?
ToF > Divine Insight on Malkorok

5:11 encounter - assuming 9s per Mind Blast he should have around 34 mind blasts for the fight. Your Shadow Priest only has 19 which means he is not using it on cooldown (which is even worse if you think about it because he is specced into Divine Insight which means it's acutally going to be a bit higher than 34 which is assuming on CD usage)

That is true when you cheese Twist of Fate by starting the fight at or below 35% health or having someone else do this, at least on normal mode.
Hc Malk is a different story since you can procc ToF off of the adds, but still i wouldn't say its definately better , but on par with divine insight. (once the boss is on farm everyone will try to get the same cheese off ) Divine Insight helps on movement issues depending on your setup. In my 10man group we play this fight with 3 melees and a mw monk who counts as melee, meaning that - tanks there are 4 people getting the orbs and therefore getting ridiculously many. In that case Divine Insight helps with high movement, but i still perform equally good , sometimes better, with ToF since the kill is safe by now.

For normal mode though, go Divine insight if youre not cheesing ToF,

I would suggest him to specc divine insight and go Mogushan Vaults heroic to get the elegon trinket until he gets offpieces with decent haste to reach dp+3 ( 14873 haste) without ignoring socket bonusses (e.g. his chest).

Ill keep the answer short, Timing. Most Priests epecially if new don't realize a lot of our dps comes from the way we time our burst. Spamming buttons and using DP as soon as u have 3 orbs can a lot of times hurt rather then help.

rookie mistake number 2. Know the fights. high target switching with multi dotting use from dark comes light. single target heavy you have to go solace.

Managing dots. Especially a rookie or reroll unless they were an affliction lock dont realize a dots dropped off, gimping there dps for that amount of time.

HASTE. reach the break point, until you are at the break point your dps will lack.

Been playing priest for 7 years. Shadow from lvl 70 to current. Hopefully this helps a little bit. I know these are kind of basic common answers, but the basics are were people mess up the most.

There are a lot of things that will affect their dps, but first and foremost is understanding basic spell priority and usage. Have them read the guides over at howtopriest. If they don't know the site, they need to make it their new best friend. There are boss specific breakdowns on which talents people are using. They should be changing talents for different bosses. I don't see that from the logs, and they are using suboptimal choices on top of it.

Major adjustments need to be made to improve DoT uptimes and spell usage. Mind blast needs to be kept on CD at all times. Both of them are way below the max number of casts without including the talent that gives them extra procs. More mind blasts means more devouring plagues which means more mind flay insanity, which they are both spec'd into. I don't know what happened with Kruss on Sha, but their active time was 83% without dying. That means they either dc'd or just stood around and didn't cast anything for a big chunk of time. That needs to be 99%+ and is a big problem.

There are some minor gear things that would give them a bit more dps, but the spells and uptimes are far more significant. DoT timers are mandatory for shadow.

Edit: Disc using cascade on a stacked fight makes me sad. Your two disc priests have some big issues glancing at spell usage. A single holy fire the whole fight...wow.

For somebody who claims to have an abundance of experience your arguments are not 100% true.
Holding on to a Devouring Plague is in most situations a dps loss, especially while playing with talents like insanity or divine insight.
Your argument about timing dp's is only relevant in situations where you know how long a certain procc is going to last, meaning that said procc is already activated.
This means that it doesn't matter when you throw the dp during the procc , unless its BBoYS , and furthermore would be a dps loss to hold the dp for possible further proccs since all you lose is valuable uptime of buffed insanity channels. While BBoYS is active you should probably wait for it to stack up to max , redotting just before 0 and throwing dp at 0. While playing with Di holding on to plagues for proccs is also a gamble since you are forced to throw the dp as soon as Di proccs in order to avoid losing possible proccs.

Its also not useful to hold dp in most situations since on heroic you will need to put the times when you can actually safely channel to good use and not wait for the stars to align.

As to the FDCL part of your argument, the only fight where i have found FDCL to actually be better than Insanity is Protectors. Everything else is to be played with Solace and Insanity, not only because its top dps , but also because its more useful progression dps than fdcl considering how great it is for burning down targets quickly.

And the sentence : HASTE. reach the break point ..etcetc is also a 0 info sentence since there are two viable haste caps (14783 , 18215 ) and not THE cap as you so eloquently put.
