    Sleeping Issues

For the past couple of months whenever I lay down on my side I can hear my heart pounding in my head. Not just hearing it, but feeling it too, all the way from the top of my head (And if I focus) going all the way down towards my hips/legs. Needless to say, it pisses me off and for the past few weeks I have finally reached the point where sleeping, or attempting to sleep, is not 'fun' anymore. This leads to going to bed later, staying behind this damn PC longer than I should. In the morning I feel more tired than I am when I go to bed the night before.

Now I've googled around, supposedly it's stress, and I have been having this problem since the summer holidays. Due to injuries to my leg I had to abandon a military career I had planned (Almost 25, I'm getting too old for it now). Also because of my leg, I've seen enough doctors the past year. I know what people are thinking: Go to your doctor now. Yes, I've seen these kind of topics before and this advice given, but that's not what I'm here for. I'm here to ask people who have similar problems like me, or had them and gotten over it. I'd like some advice, or tips, or whatever before I make my next move. Because these forums have such a big amount of people, all with different experiences in life, surely there are people around here who know what I'm talking about.

1 - Make sure this is not the sign of something more serious, like a heart murmur. Easy enough to have checked out, and the gold standard is an echocardiogram.

2 - Go to bed at the same time every night, and precede bedtime by 30 minutes of quiet, NON ELECTRONIC activity like reading, meditating, or just lying on the couch.

3 - Exercise at least 20 minutes a day, but for a 25 year old, more like 30 minutes a day. Cardio especially.

4 - Acclimate yourself to the sound you hear in your ears by picking a non-important time of the day or week to lay on your side and just experience whatever this sensation is that is bothering you. It can help you get used to it and remove the anxious, frustrated feeling that you associate with it.

5 - Look into some mild over-the-counter therapies for sleep like melatonin.

6 - Last resort, a prescription for sleeping. Although I really hesitate to recommend this unless ALL other options have failed. The body is meant to sleep, you just gotta find your groove.

See your doctor, maybe you have high blood pressure or pulsatile tinnitus

Do you sleep on your side?

Think about something that makes you happy or watch tv on low volume

Thanks for your advice Littleshashi I've gone to my own doctor with these issues before, she also advised reading something. I did that, didn't really help. Sure, I become more tired, but as soon as I hear my heart pounding again I lose the desire to sleep. Cardio is np, I travel around on my racing bike, I still have a pretty good condition.

Every 3 months we did do a mini medical screening, see how you progressed. I always ended up with a blood pressure of ~90/140.

I always sleep on my side, I try to sleep on my back but I am not as comfortable. Eventually I just fall asleep, annoyed.

It's best to bring this up to a real doctor or a sleep specialist. This isn't the appropriate place to find help for medical issues.
