Well they have no item shop, so there's nothing they could use with gold.
Right now their version of customization comes from talents. I wrote a quick summarization about it if you were curious.

Maybe stats boosts with the gold ? Like the tomes in wc3, to still choose how to play your char, as a tank, as a dps, or as a pure spammer/support etc
