So Alan Turing the guy who helped break the enigma code during WW2 and is said to the father of computers has received a Royal Pardon from the Queen.

The problem with a pardon is that it is an excuse. You say (or at least you should say) "pardon me" after burping. It is an acknowledgement that you did something wrong, but it's okay now. Rather than issuing a pardon a simple statement recognising that the law was wrong should suffice.

The Royal Family cannot go around pardoning people willy nilly. That'd be a major interference with the criminal justice system. The House of Lords rejected a pardon for Turing last year, and the only reason this won't cause a political issue is because of how popular it is.
