The weakaura was unusable in my original language, maybe it is the same if you don't play with the english version of the game.

Hey all, great thread. Due to limited time available, I still haven't tried out the CMs but my goal is getting 9/9 on my new main (MW Monk) and if the stars align, try for competitive times (armory). I don't have access to google drive from work so have to post the list here.

I'd like to know if I'm on the right track with the gear list I've selected. I went with blue socket > socket > spirit > crit.

I personally don't think that spirit is useful as MW monk, I don't seem to recall them to have mana issues, to mention you can use Restorative Ambers for quick mana regen if you do get in trouble.

Yes, that's a problem with theoretical lists without any experince in actual fights. On the other hand, I'm not sure more than 1 haste break point is achieavable (maybe 2nd). Also, I can play around a lot with gems and go much more int/crit heavy. IDK. Will get the gear and play around in Proving grounds and beginner CM groups.

You'll see after a couple of tries that you barely never lose your tank because you run out of mana, but most of the time because you don't keep him up. And if you face this mana problem anyway, it's almost always better to be thoughtput geared and to take more "ambers pauses" than run with a full spirit set in order to never stop.

And about the haste breakpoint you're talking about, I'm not sure since I dont play MW myself but most of the time you can't reach high thresholds with CM gear, you lose a lot of primary stats and you simply can't afford this.

    Good luck tho !

My MW set that I didn't get to use because my guildies don't believe in the mists for realm best (had to roll a priest T_T) is crit > haste >>> spirit >>>> mastery with int gemming, no fucks given about breakpoints since they're only strong for raid healing. Also I use the monk quest 450 blue staff because it has crazy DPS compared to anything 463 (2.9k vs 1.6k) http://www.wowhead.com/item=90010

Pretty much agree about haste breakpoints. Regarding the staff, Wowhead description shows "1455.3 damage per second". Am I missing something? Also, one hander + off hand from my list = 3 sockets. Is it worth over this staff (if 2.9k dps is accurate)?

  11. #131
The listed DPS on wowhead is wrong, check the coments, or check yourself through the in-game link from wowhead, here's a screenshot though http://imgur.com/J6LyR4i
As for it's worthiness it depends on your playstyle and how much you'll be actually DPSing.

I don't understand why people like you, who aren't part of the competitive challenge mode scene, would bother to argue with me. You don't know what you're talking about so don't embarrass yourself by pretending you do, paladin is arguably the weakest tank for challenge modes, I would put only druid below them. Monk is in a different league to them and both DK and warrior are superior - that is why there was no paladin BiS on the spreadsheet.

Here is a list of the "competitive" classes for CMs if going for regional times or top server times on a really competitive server.

    -- Top tier --

    Brewmaster monk
    Disc priest
    Frost mage
    Ele shaman
    Surv hunter
    Destro lock
    Prot warrior

    -- Second tier --

    Blood dk
    Resto druid
    Arms warrior

That's it. Everything else, while situationally okay, is not competitive to good groups using the above classes. An enhancement shaman can certainly burst a boss like the last boss of SSB down, but is useless outside the window primal fire ele is alive. Etc.

There's some groups on random servers which have top server times using other classes, like a ret pally or whatever, but those times aren't really even top 100 US and will almost certainly get beaten as people transfer around to get perma-titles approaching 6.0.

Also you can add "assassination rogue" to tier 2 for SM only if using the DK ghost strat, as aoe stealth lets you get the ghost through the courtyard to the second boss.

Thanx for the tip and screenshot. Will definitely try the weapon out.

citrique, where would you put MW monks? I assume most specs with proper gear/skill/strat are gold viable? My primary goal is getting gold without paying for it, don't want to spoil the fun just for a few FOS. I just hope I won't have to respecc BrM just to get into groups (I already abandoned the idea of competitive times as MW though).

Also, is fistweaving viable enough for gold times (assume min/maxed gear, skill and optimal clear strat)?

I personally feel like MW monks could actually be great for competitive times in CM's but I'm not aware of anyone ever really trying it out. When looking at top 30 world times no one has really run anything other than Disc priests (barring the occasional druid/shaman but those two are very instance specific) because, in my mind, it's such an obvious choice and I don't know if many teams would have the patience to try out a MW monk. That and disc priests were kinda set as the standard very early on in the CM season when only a few teams were pushing times.
But the abilities they have probably could be competitive with disc priests but this late in the season I doubt if we'll ever find out.
I was going to start running MW monk as heals with my team at some point but I got called to work and can't run CM's at all anymore. So now my priest sits and I can only hope that come WOD I can get onto another team to start fresh on CM's with the new season.

All specs are 100% gold viable, you just won't be able to afk your way through on teh weakest specs (or well you can if your group compensates ), example I am running with a rogue in latest cm group and having no issues. None of my CM groups have even contained critique's top tier and gold have been easy. I've had resto druid / blood dk but honestly for golds a healer is a healer, doesn't need to do anything fancy.

There's literally no unviable specs for gettings golds. Assuming 3 dps, 1 healer and 1 tank you can go with anything and still clear golds IF you play well and use consumable(/tomes for buffs). Hell 3 boomkins, guardian and a hpala can do them

MW is definitely decent, but they simply aren't as good as priests, priests do more burst damage and healing and have great CDs (PS, barrier, SS) they also have feathers, life grip and MC which all have their uses. A MW could get good times but they are just simply never going to be better than a disc priest.

Good enough for me. As long as I get 9/9 gold and have a bit of a challenge in the process I'm happy. Now, "just" to complete my gear set and find a group :P

I'd say you have way too much spirit. Spirit in CMs is close to worthless, I ran with 3k on my Druid being really bad (have only played resto 25man before, so 5man = pretty much regrowth spam for me) and having pretty "long" fights due to bad dps and it was more than fine.

You should definitely get 2 throughput trinkets at least.
EU first PG wave 30, come at me bros.
