Some will say 'there are no bad students, only bad teachers'.

That presumes a teacher has students, i.e. people who are there to learn from them. Not people who are there because someone made them be there and only care about whiling away the time required of their presence with various distractions, personal and interpersonal, not caring about or even taking delight in the disruption of the learning process some present, who actually ARE students, attempt to undergo.

As the number of students drop in favor of the number of disruptive time-wasters, who still get counted as the former, of course the failure rate is going to spike. And as always, those responsible for the problem take none of the blame, while those who actually have to deal with the problem take most if not all of it.

Its the teaching that is the issue, boring no talent teachers are graduating college at an alarming rate and schools are picking up these kids so they can pay them less and the old good teachers are leaving for early retirement. This makes out kids dumber every day.

My aunt was bragging about her son's epic performance in math (final year in high school) as he is "stellar" in it but bad at everything else. I told my cousin that my avg for algebra at that level was 99% and calculus was 98%. He told me his is 70% and thinks he's going to be a mathematician.

Last year, I found out my close friend became my other cousin's high school math teacher (also, final year). He begged me to give my friend an ultimatum to pass him with atleast a 51% lest he gets rejected for college.

    Imagine my pride.

The teaching staff never changed yet they graduated several successful classes before this new Freshmen class came through.
It's the only thing you can control. Having magic fairy dust that makes everybody smarter isn't there.
So there are 2 options you either improve the lessons, or improve the facilities.

Please stop thinking in 20th century standards.

You are completely and totally forgetting about the other problem, students. So no, there are not just two options. As the old adage goes, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. The schools could have the best facilities (I'm aware that here in America, they usually aren't), the best teachers, but if the kids flat don't want to listen, do their work, or apply themselves to actually graduate, they just won't. This has nothing to do with the schools or the teachers and everything to do with the students.

Please stop thinking in 19th century standards.

My High School only had 850 people or so, 226 in my graduating class, but it was impossible to fail. If you were at least an average student, you could take 100% honors courses every year and make an 85+ in them. I only took one non honors class my entire time in High School, English 1, and made something like a 120 in the class because of all the random extra credit that showed up on tests and how simple it was. We had people graduate with ~10 classes passed because they just let them on to the next grade. I'm talking about people who got 365 day suspensions, never came to class, did nothing, one even got expelled twice and still showed up again and graduated. The only way you could fail was if you dropped out.

Why ? We allready have to much people with degrees in western world. If lazy kid fail more better for the others.

We shouldn't force someone to study, let the one who want do it. I'll be very happy to still have someone to flip my burgers.

Nothing vital in this post. It is well known that u get more motivation from things u like to do. I've always had an interest in physics but after 6 months of it i was so fed up with the teachers that i just couldn't continue. So much potential lost just because an study is so boring. Even though they could have made it so much interesting.

You should totally go back to school dude.... that being said, every-time a teacher tried to make something more interesting it normally backfired and ended up being more boring than just sitting in class....

Lazy students fail, bears still shit in the woods, the Earth is still spinning.

Go to places like Africa or China where students have either very strict passing rules or very little resources or both, and they do everything in their power to pass their courses and LEARN.

North American children are lazy as fuck, I know this because I live on the same continent. As soon as something is hard about a course or a teacher isn't good they start bitching and moaning and if they fail they blame it on the whole universe except themselves, meanwhile the exchange student from an African country or China has A+ and everyone calls them "nerds".

No, they're not nerds, they just learn by themselves instead of placing priority over their fucking 25 man raids 5 day a week for 4 hours each night.

Schools have existed for thousands of years. There have always been bad teachers and tough subjects, and there have always been people passing them and learning. Don't do like them and you die out, it's called survival of the fittest, and sometimes you have to work hard to be the fittest.

This pretty much sums it up. I have to laugh at the people blaming teachers for not being entertaining. Since when was that the goal?

entitled kids that dont want to do HW and parents think that is ok that little johnny doesn't need to, and there is no way he failed that test the teacher must not like him. I know a few teachers and its sad how bad it is, can't punish, can't call out, can't fail a kid etc..... all for fear parents will call and rage.

That is not fair. In my home country, i did not have any responsibility. I did not even had to work. My primary DUTY according to society for my age, was ONLY to study and nothing else. No wonder I could get Straight As all the time. But here you have to grow up. You get responsiblity. You have to work, society expects you to work from 16. and you wonder why asian kids beats american kids in education.

Helicopter parenting should be a federal felony.

As Eric Cartman would say, "You rack a disciprine!"

Which is very true, by the way. Parenting is extremely weak nowadays. I was lucky to have good parents!
