How much should I be getting paid for this type of work?

    Hello everyone,

I'll keep this short and down to the facts. I am a marketing major at university (4th year) and I am in my first relevant work experience (i.e. in my field). My job responsibilities are as follows:

    • Create training videos / promotional videos for the company (requires knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (after effects & premiere) as well as how to operate an expensive video camera)
    • Work with a web developer to redesign the website we are using (I'm not doing the coding, but I'm creating the vision and telling him what to do)
    • Create blog / social media content for our company (It's a b2b company, so I can't just write a generic blog post to Joe Consumer)
    • Work with advertising companies to understand what they offer and whether or not we should allocate marketing funds towards it

There are a few other things as well, but they aren't anything that takes any particular skill / knowledge.

Now, in light of those responsibilities and the fact that I have yet to graduate, how much do you all think is a fair wage for this position? I'm not going to post my hourly rate just yet (I don't want to taint the responses).

    Responses to any questions:

I do work in the USA

$15/hour sounds right. Idk what country you're in so...it wouldn't surprise me if you got $10/hour, although $12/hour is fair. $20/hour would be lucky. $25/hour would be fucking godsend.

Should have clarified in the OP - I work in the USA.

I got paid $11/hour for "internship" level work when I was at university (US). That was over 10 years ago, but it was technical science-ish stuff. (edit: to clarify, I was living abroad for this work and had a $20 per diem for food, with reasonable housing and travel expenses paid for, so it was really a lot more than $11). If I hadn't been abroad it just would have been the $11 without the other perks. So, idk, I'd say anything above $10 is probably fair. I'd push for more if I could.

Need to tell us what state. New york would pay alot more than alabama probably. I would think in ca it would range from 12 an hour to about 16 to start, more if you have some sheepskins and a cool title.

I'd ask for about 15-16 an hour. My company is currently hiring a part time designer who is going to be fresh out of college and that's what they are looking at. I know the position isn't necessarily exactly the same, but yah. I'm paid about 20/hr, but I've been out of college for a few years and primarily do print design which pays less than web. I live in Maryland though so I don't know what is a normal wage where you live.

Not much seeing you aren't a specialist in any of the actual areas. I would guess $12 -$15 an hour seeing you can do most all of that without a degree at all. Adobe is simple, so is Creating a blog takes no discernible skills either. Sounds like you have a typical intern job to me.

Ya state matters too. I don't know if this is a by hour or a salaried job though, makes a difference. Like Hooked said, us New Yorkers get paid$$$$ (to spend it all on crazy cost of living prices).

I want to know which state.

Edit: If you told us the company it'd be easier too hehehe.
