Is there a way too see what files or programs are being used by an external hd?
I can't remove my hd safe, and theirs too much stuff on there to check what files might be in use

I ask this because i'm having some problems, I think the hd is the source, and I was wondering if those files could have caused it.

You can use process explorer for this purpose.
A guide with pictures on how to use it for this can be found here. In the search, you'd just punch in the drive letter to narrow it.
