Why are so many people scared of socialism?

Most people that claim Socialism is bad do not actually know what it is, those same people often get the meaning of Liberal wrong too.

I don't think it's so much that people are scared of it, so much as it is that the richest most powerful people on earth can afford armies of shills to work tirelessly convincing everybody that "You could win at capitalism too... if it wasn't for all this darned socialism everywhere... "
"We'll gladly pay you more, but first you have to protest minimum wages."
"We'll gladly provide you with health benefits... but first you have to protest against public health care."

They don't need shills. They have enough people brainwashed to generally believe this. Most of our country is like this.

Because the wealthy right in the U.S use the media to make people that way. This allows them to continue manipulating capitalism the way they do to make the rich richer and the poor poorer. It's exactly what they did with communism not so long ago.

Well, it certainly is thanks to our education system not properly differentiating it and communism, not to mention several people think they are similar or also the same as Nazism and Marxism.

Maybe those that follow the Marxist theory don't want Socialism to then lead to Communism. Maybe some people like Capitalism, or are maybe just fine with how things are, could also be that people dislike certain aspects of socialism and dislike other aspects.

Personally there's a few aspects I don't like about Socialism, and there's a lot I don't like about Capitalism, which why I find it hard to ever really form a real opinion when it comes to politics.

Pure socialism, communism, capitalism whatever doesn't work. A mix of socialism and capitalism works perfectly fine though.

it's not about having no leaders or inequality. it's about eliminating the oppression that comes from capitalism
