Asme do you have experience with XML?
Not really :/ Magento uses it a bit, but I don't have to mess with it much.

Ah dang, I have to use it for this project and honestly I can't tell what I'm supposed to do with XML at all or how to write it, seems it actually requires a style sheet to function and it seems it doesn't replace HTML or maybe it can but I don't know if it does or not but it does it's own things too and I don't know what they are ;-;
frustrating!
I also have tot use perl for this project, is perl like a replacement for php or something else totally different?

It sucks a little. Mog is almost annoying when she talks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfRqZAxU_Ig
Was putting in a block of XML from Magento, but I don't even know if that's relevant for you, so I removed it... I have no clue
I don't know perl.
Ah dang okay.
My lecturer is very unspecific about requirements and stuff so I'm not even sure what I'm supposed to do with these things, I know I'm supposed to make a website that provides information about something and that's about it so far :<
Last web development lecturer was better, knew exactly what kinds of things to be done in php or in mysql etc, the details were left up to me and I just had to pick some features and implement them, was much better!

Ah thanks Asme that helps a lot ;D
How it works in Magento is that default is called on every page and specific things like catalog_category_default and catalog_product_view get called on specific pages too, which correspond with the name (catalog/product/view.phtml for example). Then in the phtml file you can call for the references in it. Like you add the "left" reference in the phtml and then it adds everything you added in that block.
But there's a lot of voodoo in between that I don't understand
:<
I feel like Majad.
