I used to say the same thing. I don't any more. Playing Rift for a while last year convinced me there's something to the idea that character models that look good actually do matter. It's a matter of personal preference of course and this won't really affect gameplay in any way but I think it does make a difference.

I don't think that the environmental team has much to do with the character team. There are separate teams within the art department. Nonetheless I understand your point. I don't agree with it but I get where you are coming from.

Honestly I think some of they nay-saying morons wish wow was all black and white, and our characters where simply cubes running across a blank landscape hitting raid bosses with a line of pixels.

It's almost identical to the question "why do you care how you look in real life?" since you're not the one seeing yourself.

Then why have new races? Why have the races we already do? Everyone should play as a floating nameplate.

Anyway, OP, why *wouldn't* we care? Simetimes when I'm online, but I'm not really playing, I zoom in and admire just how badass I look. I expect the update to make me look even more bad ass, getting rid of my absurd forearmwrists that plague all Human Males in the World of Warcraft. I look forward to it because it's going to make me look cooler, and I like looking cool.

because it's a much needed graphical update? because we're getting everything with new animations? because every character in the whole world (of warcraft) is going to be using the new models?

    because it will look good?!

This. Why even design cities and landscapes? Place us in a big white room with some chairs from where people can queue up for their raids. Wasted resources everywhere!

Yes, like have you seen those awesome character models from SW: TOR? They make real life plastic dolls even look alive in comparison. Amazing!

I'm both laughing my ass off and am completely terrified at the same time. Can't believe you managed to do that.

No, its not the same. You think physical appearance matters the same in game vs the real world?

Explain to me exactly how artists working on player models takes away from "gameplay" development at all? Did Blizz take PvP devs off the PvP team to animate the new character models?

I'm a roleplayer. Character models are probably the single most important aspect of roleplaying, behind your roleplay addon (MRP/FlagRSP/TRP2), so the revamped models (by the way HOLY SHIT THAT HUMAN FEMALE) are a huge boon to us. I'd dare say they're bigger than Transmog, which was a huge boon in its own right.
Be seeing you guys on Bloodsail Buccaneers NA!

Some people don't wear helmets. Some people are into the game for aesthetic purposes. Some people actually appreciate development and moving forward. Do you OP?

  16. #136
Because it was time for an update.

Guess somebody doesn't get it's not only his character model, but all the NPCs in the game, your character selection screen, armory, etc...

Obviously the armor will be adapted to it, and you get new animations on top of that. It's going to be a HUGE change, like going from regular TV to HD.

Oh yes, the "G" stands for graphics... I kid, I kid...

Can't say graphics will ever make or break my gaming choice. Style? Maybe. Game play will always come first.
I will say though to bring the character models to a more "current" standard isn't by any means bad. At least they seem to be keeping a similar style of the characters.. they're just upping the detail.

A character that looks more life like, more realistic, is a character you can relate to better. When I play a character/avatar I want to project certain emotions onto that character to feel more immersed.
While a lot of people may not feel that way, a significant amount do.
I check out my char a lot, is the armor fitting, is the look good etc. That's why transmog has been such a hit.
