    Should I upgrade my PSU

Hi I am currently using a Corsair CX 600 and I think I should be fine with it, but I am getting a R9 290 tri-x in the next few days and I figured I should get a second opinion just to be safe. So far I have no problems with it (other than the minor one of "where do I shove the Molex cable out of the way?", currently in the 5.25" bays).

My set up is i5-4670k 4.4Ghz, Asus Sabertooth Z87, CM Hyper 212 EVO, Patriot 16GB DDR3 (4 DIMMs), Sapphire Radeon HD 6850 (Sapphire 290 Tri-X incoming), Samsung 840 250GB, 3 hard drives, 3 case fans (will add 4th if I can clear the cable clutter from the bottom of the case).

If it should be able to handle my system with the new card comfortably I will carry on using it. But if it will likely struggle with it can you please recommend a replacement that will leave the option to use it in crossfire open should I decide to do that at some point down the line, I would also prefer a semi/fully modular model.

(I have also been toying with the idea keeping my current card in the system and using it to do some crypto-coin mining, but down-clocking it so in theory it shouldn't generate much noise or heat and use less power but still be able to get some small amount of coin out of it. Not sure if this is in any way viable so this would only be if I was upgrading the PSU anyway.)

    Thanks.

Woa, if you want to crossfire that beast you will need at least 1000W PSU :P

Fully modular platinum Antec 1000w 250$

Semi modular bronze Kingwin Lazer 1000W 130$

Fully modular gold XFX 1050W 198$

Semi modular gold Cooler Master 189$

Semi modular silver Cooler Master 172$

    Just to name a few.

Wow, I knew this thing was a bit power hungry but I didn't expect you could break 1000W with just two of them. Still crossfire is just a maybe at some point plan, thinking maybe in a year or two, I might do it if I want to do a 7680 x 1440 Eyefinity setup or I get a 4k monitor assuming prices keep dropping in the mean time (Perhaps will see 4K Qnix, Achivia, etc. monitors by that time).

For the time being my main concern is if I should expect problems with one of them on a 600W PSU.

Well, you can just try and if your PC stutters or shuts down while playing games, you will know it's PSU issue.

Fair enough, the wait and see approach it is then.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll look into them more if it turns out to be a problem.

You don't need 1000W+ for xfire.

A good brand quality 850W would suffice, you could probably get away with even 750 but I wouldn't just to be safe.

You're looking at something like ~650W-680W at full load (90%+) with Crossfire 290, cpu overclock etc. so a quality 850W would be perfectly fine.

Your current PSU isn't the best quality ever but the ~552W is enough for a single 290.

    XFX Pro 850W
    Antec HCG M 850W
    SeaSonic M12II 850W

Yea I got that impression after I had to RMA the first one (DoA). The replacement has been working fine though. So as long as I am not going too close to its capacity I am fine with leaving it for now. Thanks.
